Son's 14U select team attending PG tournaments this summer. Curious from you guys how valuable these events are for the 14U boys. Obviously great to start early getting experience in this setting ... just want to hear from those of you who've preceded us, what other benefits, and how can he be sure and maximize the opportunity?

jp24,

Been there done that too many times. Intense competition from the best travel teams in the nation. Just have fun and don't worry about anyone scouting that young. Your son will get in the PG database and if he has good individual performances they will blog about his play. Once you create an account and add your son, all his tourneys and showcases will follow him. If he turns out to be an above average player and attends an individual showcase he will get a rating/writeup which in turn will be looked at by scouts. JMHO
These are so much fun for boys and parents because they are well run and well ump'ed. Most teams are well matched and the baseball is exciting to watch.

I think the games are valuable because the kids play with and against kids that love baseball as much as they do and work just as hard too.

I don't think you have to worry about how to maximize the benefits because there are scouts and there are write ups posted online about the games.

And remember 14U baseball is just a step on the ladder, so relax and have a good time.
Depends on where the tournaments are. If your going to East Cobb you will play against the best 14u teams on the east coast, and maybe further. If your playing in a locally sponsored PG tournament it will be well run and the best local teams will probably be there. All good either way.

You probably won't see any scouts specifically attending these games though. Have fun and enjoy the competition.
