I see many tournaments that list the 19u age group. Is this a popular age and if so, what types of players do you mostly see in this age bracket? I recently heard Legion will cap its age at 18 as of 2015. Will this open the door to more 19u teams for older seniors and college freshman who aren't invited to play collegiate summer baseball leagues.

This should've been done a long time ago. Legion ball should be for HS players. In part, this is why American Legion is going downhill in some areas. College age players who should be playing in summer college leagues are forcing some HS players to go elsewhere. This in part probably what started HS summer travel teams and HS coaches leagues.
Great info guys.

I would guess Legion never meant to accommodate college freshman. I would imagine it was for kids that had to repeat a year of school or for the states (i.e. CA & OK) that have transitional kindergarten, which makes kids closer to 19 at graduation. I've heard transitional kindergarten is being dropped by many states due to funding.
