Apologies to those living where baseball hasn't begun yet. We finally played the first game of the season. Our mostly 13yo team was matched up against a team with 6 returning all-stars and the kid who won the US championship game in the LLWS.

Our 14yo pitcher got behind in the count early to most hitters and gave up 4 runs in the first and a total of 6 in 3 innings of work.

Our kids came up in the first to face the kid who won the LLWS championship game and they were pretty psyched. Our leadoff hitter struck out on a nice curve. Our #2 hitter grounded out and our 14yo struck out on a nasty curve in the dirt and reached first when the catcher couldn't handle it. Our cleanup man singled and then my son came up. I told him to look for a first pitch fastball to jump on. Of course the first pitch was a curve that he took for a strike. He worked the count full fouling off a couple and then lined a single up the middle for a good start to his season.

My son threw 2 innings and gave up one unearned run although he got pretty good support in the field to keep them to just the one run.

He hit a sharp one hopper into a double play his next time up and then struck out on three pitches against a kid throwing in the mid 70s who had been wild earlier.

We ended up losing 9-4, had some chances to score more runs, and overheard some of the kids from the other team talking about how they were in trouble because they were supposed to mercy us and didn't.
