Yes. Denton Ryan HS tournament. My boy's a fish on Varsity for Nimitz. Go Vikings! Still waiting on an update. They were scheduled for 10am vs. Byron Nelson High. I bet they had to work the field and got started late.
School day play. That never happened when I played HS ball back in the stone age ('80-'83)
The Woodlands 5 Flower Mound 1

Corpus Christi Carroll 2 Flower Mound 11

Jags let the Woodlands game get away from them late. Unfortunately the Jags don't have their top 2 pitchers with them on the trip to Houston but team is hitting and playing good defense. It is also giving an opportunity for others to step up like Junior Michael Wymer and freshmen Seth Jordan.
Southlake Carroll goes 3-2 in Round Rock tourney.

Thur @ noon won 7-0 over Lubbock Frenship
Thur @ 8:30pm lost 8-3 to McNeil
Fri @ 10:00am won 4-3 over Leander
Fri @ 7:00pm lost 7-3 to Round Rock
Sat @ 10:00am won 11-4 over Midland

I put the game times up because it was about as bad a schedule as you could get...playing early and late every day...throw in a 3 hour bus ride Thursday morning and a rain delay and the Dragons seemed to have little energy left for the night games.

Not too impressed with the Rawlings Lake Cities Classic.....

somehow a 1-1-1 team after pool play was given a #1 seed and advanced to the championship bracket.....meanwhile the other two teams from that group who were 2-1 were sent packing to the consulation brackets.....

5A teams don't like to be beaten by 4A teams.....or maybe just home cookin'!

Sorry you feel that way, I was told that they wanted 5a teams together and 4a teams together for Saturday's games and the original schedule after bracket play was posted incorrect.

All in all it was a great weekend for baseball other than a bit cold Thursday night.

Oh don't get me wrong, the baseball was great! The reason for the Saturday brackets was varied, depending on who was telling the story. LHS coach was said to have requested to play at home and/or wanted to play against the other fellow district mates. But no matter the reason, there is no reason a team that finished 4-1 with a run differential of +33 could finish no better than 5th (consulation champion). The whole thing was hokey!
It was a wonderful weekend of baseball to begin the season. The reason the seeds were not all correct is because coaches wanted to stay at their home fields to manage the field maintenance (most HS coaches very picky about their fields), and some didn't want to play any teams that they will face in district. I don't think any coaches cared too much about 4a vs 5a or "championship brackets" --- just wanted to get 5 games in to preparation for district play in a couple weeks.

Totally agree, the baseball was great, a lot of great teams/kids played. It would have been nice to have had a REAL tournament though. If you want to pull the stunt that was pulled this weekend, then tell all the teams up front what you're doing before they sign up. Good luck in getting anyone to sign up for the Lake Cities Classic next year.
Live out near McKinney, so my son and I hit the champ game for the Mckinney Tournament, cause to be honest, I miss baseball, now that my boys are done.

It was Naaman Forest vs Rowlett. Both teams very solid. Pitching was strong on both sides. Rowlett ended up winning 6-3. Should be a great district to watch with McKinney Boyd in the mix now. Good Luck to all!

It is just a tournament and you get as many games as you can and hope the boys play well.

If I go 4-1 with a +33 then I am feeling pretty good about my squad and could care less about a trophy.

True enough, then don't have brackets with seeds and give out trophies at all. Heck, don't call it a tournament if it's not one. Let's not forget that there are kids involved as well. Explain to them how they were told they were a #1 seed and then show up to play and get told they can only take home a 5th place trophy. And it would have been nice to play against the better teams to see how the team stood prior to district play. And the "don't want to play the same teams from district" excuse doesn't pass the sniff test. The "championship bracket" had 4 teams from the same district (hosts).
I thought the Lake Cities tournament was fairly well done as always and I'll be quite a bit the same teams +/- will be back next year. My experience suggests that the parents care a lot more than the coaches about who won what in these early tournaments.

My impression is that there were different factors involved in the alteration of the seedings...in some cases the host coach wanted to stay on their field and in other cases coaches didn't want to play teams from their own district, but I think the adjustments were mutually agreed upon by the impacted coaches. AT least that's my understanding.
Frisco Wakeland over Liberty Christian 11-6 in James Wood Classic championship game.

Well contested game until Wakeland scored 6 in the top of 7th to put the game out of reach. Top 3 hitters for Wakeland can flat out rake. They abused the Liberty closer who's 90mph fast ball caught too much of the zone. Liberty's Chad Nack already has 8 bombs and the calendar hasn't even hit March yet.

This was a fun game to watch. Both teams came out banging it around. Wakeland got on Trevor Simms (the aftermentioned Liberty closer-Rice signee) pretty good late in the game, and 2 run scoring passed balls (after base hits) when he was out there didn't help either.

It looks like Wakeland 1-9 can rake. Wow! Should be a fun team to follow all year. More LH bats than anyone. Liberty very impressive as well.

Last I checked wasn't the teams playing varsity boys and not 10 year olds. I'm sure none of them were crying. I didn't notice tournament in the title "Rawling's Lake Cities Classic" anywhere, and is WF Rider really in 8-5a?
See it really does not matter who's playing whom, in what bracket, as long as teams get a chance to see where they're at before districts.
