I have recently received emails from two college programs. One is a NAIA school and the other is from a D1 school. The first sentence goes something like this:

You have been identified as a potential student athlete for the _________Baseball Program.

More of the emails explain that they are not allowed to offer any more information because he is not a junior, but would like us to fill out an on line recruiting form and to visit their web site.

Both coaches/schools are going to be associated with an upcoming camp in November.

1st question: Is my son being "recruited" in its earliest allowed stage or is he just on an email list?

2nd Question: Does it hurt to fill out the on line recruiting form, regardless of whether or not there is any interest in their programs?

I agree with both above.

Keep this in mind also, they have to actually know your son exists before they can recruit him.

Getting in any program's database is a good first step.

Yes. You will get invites to camp. Yes. They almost all seem to be $300. No. They are not all recruiting you. Yes. Some of them may actually be recruiting you. Yes. It is a good idea to go to those camps.

As time moves on you will begin to differentiate the letters that are "canned spam" from the ones that actually want to see your son in person.

Good luck.
