1st player hits ball to center, center fielder falls down, ball lands behind him, no contact is made with ball-hit or error.

2nd bases loaded player hits ball ,third basemen goes to his left dives- comes up and throws home-everybody is safe- fielders choice or a hit..
curious- these situationns happened saturday,thanx

I am not an authority on scoring but here is my two cents worth. both of these would fall under a judgment decision but here is how I would look at it and you can make your decision from there.

1st - If ball could have been caught during normal circumstances, rule as error. If would have taken an extraordinary effort to get to the ball, rule as hit.

2nd - basically same as 1st instance, if fielded cleanly and could have thrown out player at first, than rule as FC. If could not have thrown out at first or if the 3rd base made a extraordinary effort to stop the ball and then bobbled, then rule 1B.

Hard to give anymore thoughts on this issue with out more detail but that is basically the issues I would take into consideration prior to making a ruling on how to score it.

Again, not an expert but do enjoy the "art" of scorekeeping.
I'd probably score the first as a hit. Tripping or slipping and falling down falls in the same category as the ball hitting a rock and bouncing over an infielder's head, fly ball lost in the sun, etc. Just one of those things. And if it's not an error, it's a hit. As to the second situation, the question is indeed whether the fielder could have thrown the batter out at first if he'd gone that way. Yes=FC, No=Hit.
