Tuzi my man!

Now thats more like it.

Objectivity my dear RRF8 is paramount in Tuzigoot's post.

Even a cursory look @ 08 results would point out that the cubs can really beat up on 3-4 NL teams. After that they are just over .500 VS the rest of the EXTREMELY WEAK NL teams.

The Sox (08 version), on the other hand have handled the NL, including 3-3 VS the NL's best cubbies and have managed to stay with the elite teams in baseball (except for Toronto).

All the ELITE teams, LA Angels,Boston,Tampa,Toronto and Minnesota, in the AL have faced big time competition within the premier MLB League while the cubs (6-9 VS the AL) have punished thier weak NL brethern.

The NL (.407 winning pct.VS the AL) World Series rep must not only face a superior team, they will have to overcome the AL's home field advantage.

The 05 Sox?....Can you say "AL SWEEP"?....cause that would be the result!

I'm hoping for a 1906 repeat in 2008 which would end all Chicago baseball argument's!

I forgot....the sox team of 05 was loaded with hall of famers. That team was so good that they kept it together for years afterward, winning several times. Whoops....I forgot....they knew it wasn't good enough so they tore it apart the next year.

Please......that team was the weakest team outside of the Twinkies in recent years to win it all.

They won...you gotta give them credit for that but we all know it was A HECK OF A LOT OF GOOD FORTUNE THAT DID IT.

Soxnole.....you are a knowledgable baseball guy but when it comes to the sox and The Cubs, you lose all your sense. There are NO ELITE teams in baseball these days. It's a crapshoot and any team that gets in could win it, even the fundamentally challenged white sox......if they manage to back in as it looks like the Twins (Elite?) are crashing and burning in their attempt at catching the fumbling sox.

The Cubs of 08 are clearly a better team than the 05 sox. Anyone with any objectivity or sense at all realizes that.

Im pretty sure that going through the playoffs and only losing 1 game isnt weak, and has nothing to do with good fortune. And back to back to back complete games in the playoffs is unheard of. That was one of the best pitching staffs baseball has ever seen. You cant be lucky and win 99 games. to me this seems like another cubs fan trying to bash the white sox for winning the WS.
"The past is for cowards and losers."- Da Coach

It was nice while it lasted, wasn't it? The AL Central should have been there for the sox to take, but even though the Twinkies are playing more like goldfish than piranahs the sox will require good fortune just to get in the playoffs.

"One of the best pitching staffs baseball has ever seen." Give me a break on that one. They had a nice streak. Not a one of them will ever get a vote for the Hall of Fame.

Mark Buehrle is the original member of the most overrated pitchers club.
The cubs definitely do not have nearly a good a bullpen as the sox did in 05. and the post is about the 05 sox and the 08 cubs, not about how each player is doing after that year. but its ok FBD maybe there will be a day in your lifetime where you see your favorite team celebrate after winning the world series.

and how is mark behrle over rated? the guy doesnt throw a pitch over 86 and still seems to baffle the best hitters in the game
FBDad...How are those 08 cubs doin now!??

Still think they are better than the 05 Sox?

Heck, in a weaker league, with a barely above .500 opponent, with home field advantage, they looked like THE WEAKEST PLAYOFF TEAM of the 8 playing.

I think the Sun Times got it just right....
The Chicago Flubs.

Obviously with far less heart than 05 or 08 Sox.
Can't argue too much. It is hard to defend the team. They were exposed on a few levels.

Those (about 99%) baseball fans who didn't want Soriano in the leadoff role were proven correct no matter what Lou says. In a short series of games that really matter, you can take advantage of hitters like him.

The rest of them (except the few that did perform and a injured Soto) just choked plain and simple. Not to say The Dodgers don't deserve any credit.....but the Cubs didn't even give themselves a chance.

It's hard to like a team like that. I have to admit......you've got to like the makeup of the sox players. They won't win it all but every time they have been in a true must-win game they have done it.
