2008 Metro Scout League update

Four additional points regarding MSL tryout on August 23rd:

1. TRYOUT WILL BE CONDUCTED BY 4 COLLEGE HEAD COACHES. THESE COACHES WILL RUN, EVALUATE AND SELECT PLAYERS TO BE INVITED TO PLAY IN THE METRO SCOUT LEAGUE.

2. METRO SCOUT LEAGUE TRYOUT WILL BE WOOD BAT ONLY DURING HITTING SESSION.

3. TRYOUTS ARE BEING HELD AT DBAT ON OUR FIELD TURF (INSIDE AND OUTSIDE). AS SUCH, CLEATS ARE NOT REQUIRED...ACTUALLY PROHIBIITED.

4. PLAYERS NEED TO ARRIVE 15-30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THEIR SLOTTED TIME FOR CHECK-IN AND STRETCHING AND WARM-UP.

The second season of the DFW Fall Metro Scout League, hosted by The Dallas Mustangs, DBAT (Dallas Baseball Academy of Texas), and the McKinney Marshals will commence on September 7th and run through October 5th at a local DFW venue.

We will be selecting through scout and college coach recommendations, 102 of the best 17 and 18 year baseball players in the Metroplex to play in a Sunday league. There will be 6 teams in the league that will play each other in a round robin, 12 inning, wood bat contests that will be witnessed by college coaches and pro scouts from in and around the region. Last year we had over 60 coaches or scouts attend our 5 week program and have estimated this years figure to be over 100.

During the next 3 weeks, we will be contacting the “recommended” ballplayers, so if you are not contacted by the league hosts by 8/8, please attend the tryout.

Teams will be selected by a random drawing, meaning kids will have teammates from other teams and organizations from around DFW. The focus will be on the kids as individuals, not if their team wins or loses. Teams in the league will be the Orioles, Pirates, Royals, Reds, A’s and Giants.

An open tryout will be Saturday, August 23 at 10am for outfielders only, 11am for infielders only and 12:30pm for pitchers only and catchers. The tryout will be at:

The cost to play in the league is $675 per player.

How about a real open and honest update on how many spots, specific by position, are still available so everyone knows what it is exactly you guys are still looking for. From the way "KIRK" above makes it sound from his post back on August 15, 2008 12:39 PM "We hope to invite 10-15 players from the tryout"
there are only a few spots remaining out of the 102 slotted... surely those have been filled by now or you know SPECIFICALLY what your looking for. Right?!

Last year 8-10 players from approximately 25 were invited to MSL. We are hoping that number will increase this year.

There is no cost for the tryout! We welcome all players to come out. Tryouts will be conducted by College coaches from the North Texas area.

PBB, I am sorry that I can't give you specifics but I don't have the information you request. All I can say is that we will be chosing, infielders, outfielders, pitchers and catchers to participate in the MSL.

I don't think it's up and running catch... looks like one of those advertising pop-up windows at register.com... it does say "dfwmetroscoutleague.com is COMING SOON to REGISTER.COM" in the upper right hand corner just below the tool bar but if there is Metro Scout information on that page then it's really hidden..

well I got to go to a football game in Little Elm so I will check back latter tonight maybe it's the security of this computer not letting me into it. But when I look at it all I see is a football player and s****r (spit spit yuk) ball and some other sports stuff and then there is some stuff I really am not compfortable in running my little mouse over... and pop-ups... eeww.... and nothing related to the Metro Scout League whatsoever...wierd
