No doubt that group is far above average in speed. If my 15-year old could throw 85, you can bet I'd be carting him around to every showcase within 1,000 miles.

Kids must understand that showcases are biased toward fast pitchers. That is even more true of the youngest kids attending.

A 2008 who throws around 70 is doing just fine

Sorry, At this moment its good enough to get notice. I have a 5'6",fresh 14YO kid, around 75mph pitching as RHP and LHP. From 60'6".

Even the kids with above average velocity need to understand they still need hange zero's on the scoreboard. The scoreboard is the most important factor. With that said, after high school pitchability does go hand in hand with velocity, in most cases.

Here's a stat for you. I've seen 3 thirteen year olds that threw 90. It's a meaningless stat.

I am not a fan of the faster the better - but I am also realistic.

Speed gets you noticed.

I was at the PG tournament in Ft Myers a few weeks ago. At that YOUNGER age group - if you can hum it - people will be talking.
I saw some kids gunning it - including a few on our team. They got their brains beat in. Doesnt matter.

If you can pitch it at lesser speeds - the interest is limited.

Just the way it is IMO.

I assume it is about projectability. They are probably right.

Robert Stock was first clocked at 90 when he was just a bit shy of age 15. I'm almost certain that no current 13-yo can hit 90.

The first showcase I went to I saw Ryan Mitchell hit 90 a bunch at 14 1/2 in Jan 2002. I wonder how many more like him there are.

He is one of the 3 i'm speaking about. I saw him at 13 in Tulsa and Sports Illustrated was there doing a story on him. I saw the gun myself and had to pull mine out to verify it. There's more out there, it's a big rock we live on.

The rock is large. There must be a few biggun's hiding in the hinterlands out of the tens of thousands of 13-14 year old players. It is getting harder to keep one a secret the further into the internet age we go.

Would be useful if could be possible to know the height and weight of the pitchers mention here. To compare apples with apples.
