I'm surprised Stassi is still out there. Imagine if he and his family had gone to wait to be selected....ouch!!

He must want big bucks to sign, wonder if he is a Boras kid. Like to see the Sox grab him in 4th or 5th and then give him above slot money to sign like they did with Ryan Westmoreland last year in the 5th round.

If you're a kid, why would you go? Unless you're a sure early first rounder, why would you want to sit there all that time, under scrutiny of the world? There's no point in it and no reason to put yourself through the extra pressure.

I don't see a benefit to the kid.
A friend's son was a supplemental first rounder. He went out with friends during the draft. He couldn't handle hanging out with all the people at his house. Imagine what it would have been like hanging out in a waiting room at the draft.
fanofgame,
I think make up is a combination of toughness(mental and physical), competiveness and desire. Not crumbling when negative things happen. Wanting the ball or the at-bat in a big spot. Doing whatever it takes, within the rules, to win.

Two kids who play with my son have told him they don't like batting 4th. Too much pressure and expectations. I would not consider them good make-up kids.

Thanks Laura!!!!

I have a funny story to tell a little bit later this evening. In the mean time, I am going to go have my heart checked out at the local clinic j/k Big Grin
Congratulations to all the families whose son has had their name called today! What an accomplishment to celebrate for your young men. What a joyful day for all the brothers, sisters, moms and dads that have stood alongside and supported the "Dream"!

It is so exciting to hear that so many folks who make this site the place that it is have achieved the vaulted "Next Level"!

Congratulations Again!

CD, for all the reasons we have discussed so many, many times, what a happy day and, as we both agree, "start" and "beginning" this is for Tyler. Here is hoping we can find him on Milb playing for the Hudson Valley Renegades in the NY/PENN.
spizzle, congrats to your son for a job well done in finishing his amateur career and all my best wishes for an even better one as a professional!
Nick Franklin was very deserving of that 1st round pick. Very exciting stuff. Of course, we know many kids who were drafted and congratulations to all, this is always an exciting time for us. We're at the Metrodome tomorrow to see a bunch of young players who will get drafted early "next" year. But I must admit, it is extra exciting seeing HSBBW kids like CD and Spizzle's sons get selected. Best of luck to everyone.
Thanks so much for the well wishes. I'm humbled and really touched to find so many wonderful people here pulling for Sam.
Here's a big attaboy to Tyler Bortnick and huge congrats to CD.

On another note....(Sorry, I just can't let this slide).... To the guy last night on MLB.com who made the knuckle-headed comment about Max Walla being so hard to crosscheck because he lives in the middle of nowhere...
Here, it's right here on the map

We've got an airport

Let me know if you want to come visit. Me and the fam will be glad to pick you up and squire you about Wink .
