My name is Ryan Sandler. I am 16 years old, Class of 2009 (currently a Junior). I am 6-3, 195 lbs. I am throwing in the low-mid 80s and improving. I have a hard-curve 1-7 curveball and a circle-change that is probably my best off-speed. I also throw a sharp-sinker that I throw when I need a groundball. I do not walk many guys, or give up many hits. I mostly get groundballs, but my K-rate has gone up this year with a sharp increase in velocity.

My plans for this upcoming summer are Perfect Game on June 7th and Stanford Camp on June 23rd. I am also playing on the San Diego Gamers. I have gotten attention from a few smaller schools, but I need some help with the bigger schools. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan, welcome to the HS Baseball Web!

It sounds like you are taking the right steps for a player in your situation. The Perfect Game event will be an excellent opportunity for you to be seen and evaluated, as well as for you to see for yourself how you stack up against other players who are targeting colleges at various levels. And if you have the academics for Stanford, which I assume you do since it sounds like you have been accepted to their camp, that is another top event to attend.

This would probably be a good time for you to contact or re-contact all of the schools you are interested in and let them know specifically that you will be at those two events.

It sounds like you are a young Junior and still developing and improving. Best wishes to you, and please let us know how things go for you!

Ryan,
If you can post those numbers at the Sunshine West then the improvement from the National Underclass numbers should get some attention. The Stanford camp starts on the 25th if I remember correctly. CASon will be at both those events. Perhaps we'll see you there. You might also want to plan on attending a camp or two at any schools you are specifically interested in. Given your age and size you have some projectability, but you are going to have to post numbers up around 85 to start getting interest from the mid tier or above D1s and then improve from there by next season to have a chance to be a late sign. Don't blow off the smaller schools as those schools comprise a large part of who'll be seeing you at the Stanford camp and they can provide you with a good education and a chance to play college baseball that you might not get at a big D1. They are also a bit more likely to be interested in how well you pitch without having a minimum velocity requirement than the big D1s. Also talk to your coaches from the Gamers. They can probably give you some pretty good advice.
