Thurs. - 10 am flight from Dallas Love for all players. Arrived in ABQ and took bus into Farmington. Police escort straight to Ricketts Park was an eye opener for the boys. Then off to convention center for check in and host family match ups.

Today - 9:30 coaches meeting. 11:30 parade start. Our float was up front and was powered by a huge Peterbuilt Diesel rig. Weather was great and streets were filled shoulder to shoulder. Upon completion team pictures at Ricketts. Now headed to workout starting at 4pm. Opening ceremonies between Game 1 and 2 tonight.
Friday - Opening ceremonies completed. 4 year old Gage Guthrie stole the show by sliding into home leading the teams lap around the field acknowledging fans. East Cobb def. Phoenix in tournament opener while Midland def. Ontario in night cap. Both were good contests regardless of score.

Sat. - 1st inning was crazy. Dbat Mustangs win 10-0 with all runs scored in the first. Dylan Bundy was strong, Ryan Ford has clutch bases loaded gapper, and Micheal Bernal plays slick defense. Next game Tues. after second round bye. Our opponent TBD.

Illinois beat Puerto Rico (3-1) which was another good game. Rain fell in the 6th which eventually washed the evening game out between host team and Florida. Rescheduled for 12pm tomorrow.

Light workout for the DBat's tomorrow and home run derby at 3pm.
Does Connie Mack not have some kind of rule about players being from at least your region? As dominant as the Midland Redskins have been ALL summer (only lost 4), I decided to check out their roster ...

Does anyone know the story behind the game summaries?

Ummm?

Not sure who is writing the summaries, but it doesn't sound like they have ever watched a baseball game before! They are comical and I have to laugh when I read them! They never mention who is pitching, just pitching changes...does anyone know who started the game against Midland?
teams keep expanding to get players from as far away as they want. Mustangs used to get players from farther South in Texas and DBAT has some ties in Oklahoma which identify the Archie Bradleys and Bundys and gets them to Dallas.. it's very similar to AAU hoops teams.. the coaches see top players going to tourneys against each other at early ages and start invite lists early.. that the nature of "showcase" teams and no one is going to start making rules to stop...

.. the aau mentality of forming all-star teams with young kids is a big factor in the miami heat trio.. for the last 15 years, players have been connecting to be on the same teams since middle school.. no matter where they live.. only natural it keeps evolving to the pros
Midland scores early and often, remains undefeated
By John Livingston The Daily Times

In a contest between the last remaining undefeated teams in the 2010 Connie Mack World Series, the Midland (Ohio) Redskins proved why they are the defending champion with a dominant 11-0 win against the Dallas D-BAT Mustangs.
The Mustangs previous two starters, Dylan Bundy and Archie Bradley, had pitched 12 consecutive innings of shutout baseball, but Wednesday's starter Tyler Nurdin gave up a run before a single out, and four runs in the very first inning.
The first inning was highlighted by a 2-run home-run by Cody Geyer, who finished the game 2-2 with a walk, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.
"We came out energetic and ready to play, and the past two games we have jumped on teams early," Geyer said. "It has us going, and when we get up early we stay on them as the game continues.
"Our pitchers have my back and as a designated hitter I try to bust my tail for them," he said.
Kevin Matthews pitched the complete five-inning game for the Redskins. He struck out five Mustangs hitters, and allowed only one hit.
"Matthews has been clutch all year. He throws strikes and has been right there with our other two aces Dillon Peters and Dillon Howard," said Redskins Coach Dave Evans. "We are playing the game the right way, running the bases like we have all year with our great team speed, and getting big base hits to support our pitching."
Said Matthews: "I just try to pitch to contact, and we expected to come out here and dominate again like we have the last two games. The guys made all the plays behind me, and now we have beat two of the top teams here (the East Cobb Yankees and Mustangs) so that is great."
Nurdin lasted just three innings for the Mustangs; allowing 9 runs — five earned — on 7 hits.
"They did a good job of hitting my pitches; I went into this game knowing they were a good hitting team," Nurdin said. "It hurts a little bit, but it is a reality check for our team and lets us know we have to play our game to win."
After the Mustangs surrendered four runs on three hits and one error in the first inning, they were unable to get back into the game and had their bats put in check by Matthews. The Redskins added five runs in the third inning — with three singles and a Marcus Davis triple — and two more in the fifth to add to their cushion.
"Anytime you stay undefeated, and you can be the only team left without a loss with two days left in the tournament it is big," Evans said. "We know we missed their two top pitchers (Bradley and Bundy) and we could see them again on Friday.
"We are watching every game to scout these other teams because we don't have to worry about watching the players; Farmington does that. This is what we do and we couldn't ask for a better week of baseball. We can't ask for anything more than to be playing on championship Friday."
The Redskins are one win a way from a guaranteed birth in the championship game once again this year. The Mustangs, with their first loss of the tournament, are still in good position to look for a rematch in the championship game if they win today.
"The loss is going to taste bad tonight, but we can come back from it," Nurdin said. "We want another shot at the Redskins because they embarrassed us tonight so we want another shot at them."
The Mustangs will square off with the Florida Legends at 5:15 p.m. and the Redskins will try to stay undefeated against the Arizona Firebirds at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be tonight at Ricketts Park.
Midland is definitely in the drivers seat; but anything can happen. Hopefully D-BAT didn't use too much pitching to get through that debacle last night.

As far as Midland having kids from all over, that's what they do. Those kids live up there and play for them all summer. It's just like any team in Dallas having a kid from somewhere else. If they start the year with the team and participate in 3 AABC sanctioned league games they are 'locked in' on the roster for AABC play.
Per the AABC handbook.....

Rule 105
No team in any division except Stan Musial may be comprised of more than 10 players whose Permanent Residence is not within their team's Recruiting Area as of May 15th of the current year.

Rule 106 (b)
A player must have established a temporary or permanent residence within the Recruiting Area of his League no later than June 15th of the current year.

The Recruiting Area is the AABC Region to which a team's Association belongs, plus a fifty mile buffer outside such Region's border.

Rule 106 (c)
A player must appear in at least one game for his team prior to June 15th if he lives outside the teams recruiting area, although a player may have this game participation requirement extended if he is still competing in a high school sanctioned state championship tournament or if he is a juinor college or four-year college participant in a state, regional or national tournament.

Rule 106 (d)
A player must play in at least three regularly scheduled league games for his team.

So, it appears they aren't in compliance with the rules.....
back to the game summaries .. WOW ..

"Allen hits a high one and gets out with a catch from catcher"

"#34 Ryan Casillas hits to center field and makes it to first base. #42 Jake Peevyhouse takes a hit to the side and walks to first. #11 Trever Allen hits to the pitcher but gets out on third. #9 Steve Casey hits to right field while Casillas takes home. #13 Russell Vaughan gets a wild pitch and Peevyhouse makes it home. Vaughan walks first base. #8 Kendell Konopka hits a high one and second baseman Scanlan catches it. Flores takes a hit to the leg and takes first. McDonald walks to first and Casey comes home."
