The bat you are looking at will not be legal for the 2012 season and beyond. Any non wood bat you purchase today will not be legal for play after January 1, 2012. I say that because as far as I know, there are no BBCOR rated bats on the market yet. The bat you are looking at is BESR rated and that rating will no longer be the standard the NCAA or the NFHS will use.

The bat will need to be stamped with the BBCOR label, just like todays bats must have the BESR rating.

The new bat regs dont take effect til Jan 1, 2012. Depending on how much your son plays, todays new drop 3 bat may be pretty wore out by 2012 (esp if its a Voodoo). At least thats the reasoning I've used. My youngest has swung EXO's the last couple years & it wasn't till he was 13 that he flatspotted one. Just gave $228 for a new 2010 32-29 CF4. Figure it will last til the new BBCOR standard bats come out & he may need a 33-30.

2011's were just released. I'm guessing you got your years confused? Smile
You're right. Buy the 2010 now. Buying a 2011 now is an excessive expense. I recently saw my son's 2009 EXO on sale new for $150.

I would guess all the 2012 Aluminum/Hybrids will be looking for BBCOR rating stamps before release next year. For now composites, at the college level, are banned.

Am I correct in understanding that the Composites are banned from NCAA competition this year and or until they gain BBCOR rating approval?

My experience is only one year with any of them (composite or hybrid) before they are toast anyway. By a new 2009/2010 Model now for next year but it won't be much good anyway in 2012 even if he hasn't "outgrown" it.
