Who's going to Stanford Camp this weekend ? We'll be flying up the coast to San Jose Sunday morning. We are excited ! Well at least my son and I are.My wife on the other hand is very nervous and has already started gripping.LOL ! This is the only big $ showcase my 2014 son will be playing in this summer, and this event has been circled on our calender for a long time. All of the Spring/Summer updates have been sent and so have the updated test scores. The coaches say they will watch......

I realize the importance of this event.Kind of where the rubber meets the road if you will.I guess when the dust finally settles  we will find out who is REALLY interested. Or, maybe we won't. Either way, my wish for my son is to have a fun experience at Stanford.Staying in the dorms, hanging out with boys from all over the place, and playing some baseball. Hopefully, it will be one of those super cool events in a 16 yr old's life. One that he'll remember long after he's hung up his spikes.

To everyone that's going just relax and have fun. Everything will work out

Good luck to all your sons !

You say player was not aware of interest by coaches at Stanford camp until "months later". Was he a rising junior or senior at the time?

I know of a kid who played at Stanford 3 years, started a lot in his career, later drafted (now in pro ball) that had no interest from Stanford until months after the camp.  Did not get good "grades" from the camp either.  Position player, was heading into senior year at the time.

Relatively recent...it happens.

I know stuff happens. But for the benefit of the Board, we don't want people to confuse exceptions with the rule. Are you saying this is an exception or something folks should count on?

"For the benefit of the board"....anyone who plays college baseball is an exception.

But I assume you know that. So as my son played at Stanford, let me count off the top of my head the number of teammates who more or less fit the profile/situation I described. Hmmmm...more than 1...all "exceptions"...4 others come quickly to mind.

Jed Lowrie (Oakland A's SS) almost fits this as well. I believe he had one scholarship offer out of HS...Stanford.

Odds are long, no doubt. But "for the benefit of the board" let me advise that you should NOT give up. Not if you truly believe in yourself. I don't know how I get out of bed tomorrow I'd I don't have dreams I believe I can achieve. Whether i actually do or not cannot dissuade me from dreaming...and trying.

No, no, no...do NOT give up just because it will take an exception!

Wonderful statement that should be posted somewhere on the front of this website.

I just want to wish all of the players who are there this week a wonderful experience. It goes far beyond just being seen, the teaching there is amazing, and so many parents miss this (including myself). You have some of the top coaches from all over the country there not only looking at kids but giving back their knowledge.

One of my son's top HS experiences.

bobbyaguho - I'm calling you out!  ASU's colors are horrendous....just as bad as Virginia Techs.   Are you color blind?

Harv - You are a thinking man.  Fieldtrip to the Tesla showroom for a quick test drive!  Awesome.  We have a family friend who works for Tesla.  I've told him I'm going to give him a call when price of the car comes down from "extremely unaffordable to anyone but the Sultan of Brunei " to "absolutely ridiculous".   I'm a patient man.

Stanford can be counted on...without fail...to advise all players which coaches will attend each camp. Surprised you haven't received this yet, maybe it will come in a day or two.

I don't think your son needs to wait to see which coaches will attend before sending them emails. He should have sent his target list his summer schedule by now. Should have asked in those messages which events the coach is planning to attend. If this hasn't been done, no reason to delay in informing the target list now that he will be at Stanford Camp.

I think it is very important to do this. At the Stanford Camp that just ended, I heard there were 24 teams with, what, 15-18 players per team? That's over 400 campers. Coaches can't see them all. They need a list going in, and recruits need to contact coaches in advance to get on their lists, I think

Just returned from Stanford camp last night.  Remarkably well run, especially considering the number of players and logistics.  My 2014 son played on the Sacred Heart and Palo Alto HS fields in addition to Sunken Diamond; excellent facilities all around.  His only complaint was the quality of the dorm food.  Welcome to your future! I added the list of coaches that was sent from Coach Stotz, although there were numerous other coaches in attendance (e.g., Coach Pollard from Duke).

I think Alebaba was asking as he was not there. When my son went we got in advance a list of the teams and coaches who were going to be there, and yes a player should be in contact with them in advance.....however my son ended up going to a program he had never contacted and was seen at Stanford...so you never know. As far as cages in Palo Alto...you have to be kidding me. They start at 7Am for breakfast and go to 5, they have plenty of cages there and taking a few AB's ahead of time will make no difference. I always am amazed at this but coaches are looking at tools, swings, approach, hustle, etc. Results are usually not that important.

Do not underestimate the fun aspect and learning at the camp. Remember it is not all about being seen.

Aleebaba,

Just got back from Stanford camp. Don't know if there are any restrictions on cage use, but when my son played at Palo Alto HS yesterday, across El Camino Real from Stanford (if driving, turn east on Churchill off El Camino Real), their cages were empty.  Easy access and walking distance to Sunken Diamond.  That said, I saw every team get plenty of warm up time and pitchers were encouraged to use the pregame time to do their own warm up routine (although that may be more a function of the particular coach for each team). The players get 3 hours of practice each day, so they get plenty of soft toss, tee work and hands on batting instruction/tips from quality coaches.  Have fun!
