With the new realignment, I believe Hickory and GB are grouped in the same 5A conference. Two from each conference move on to Regional play. I think its reasonable to believe that both Hickory and GB move on, but I'm not so sure that GB will be the favorite. Hickory's lineup may prove to be a bit top-heavy, but the bats that they do have are legit. It doesn't get much better than Polansky (VT), Lowry (UVA), York (RAD), in succession. They also return Connor Eason (UVA).
This isn't a prediction of who will finish where. Great Bridge will be very good, as usual. It's more to say that I don't view Great Bridge as being superior, on paper, to Hickory in 2014.
Western Branch should be the favorite in 6A.
Nansemond River in 4A.
Kellam will not be a major player this year.
Don't count Oakton out. Even though they lost 6 starters they have quality kids moving into those spots.
