2019 NCAA Division III baseball championship selections

I need to head over to D3baseball.com to see what people think of the new format. 

Do any board people have skin in the tournament?  Last year we had three or four, I believe.

Why wouldn't you just add enough teams to make it 64 and have every region be the same format.  Doesn't seem like it'd be too tough to do that and would make a lot more sense.

I have a fair weather interest. One of the coaches is a former college summer ball teammate. Happy for him if he wins. Not going to lose any sleep if he doesn’t. Went to a day of the conference tournament and got bored. This will be a better level of ball.

i did see “why they play the game.” I was chatting with a dad whose son played for a team that lost opening day. They were facing elimination against one of the top teams in the country. They were hitting over .300 for the season. Eight hitters were over .300.

The dad explained the starting pitcher is erratic. He was hoping the kid could give three solid innings and take it from there. How about seven innings of two hit, shutout ball?

Not sure how they originally arrived at that number, but travel expenses were definitely part of it. Next year they are increasing to 64.

I have a Kevin Bacon degrees of separation interest. Son played little league with a kid whose older brother is at Trinity (Tx). Knew his dad back in the day. Facebook friends with him. He has chronicled his season in pretty good detail this year. Couple other local kids are on the team. 

Whitman alum here. First time ever in tournament and they have to face a juggernaut in Chapman. Thanks, selection committee.

At least they only have to beat 1 team. But yeah, I'll be shocked if Chapman does not make a run.

I don't have actual skin in the game but I do know a few players on Christopher Newport. Go Captains!!

I saw Trinity play U Dallas earlier this year. Their kids are bigger and more athletic than most D3 schools. They look the part. But I’m not sure they are better baseball players based on what I saw that day. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. 

Wow...Trinity (CT) qualified even though they didn't make the NESCAC tournament.  They're also hosting.  I think I'll call it a day and head over and watch the action, before I watch my son pitch on senior night at 6pm.

Can't get enough baseball!!

@ Wooster, Ohio the U of Rochester played in the Regionals.

Harper Sy, one of our Goodwill Series players played as a Freshman. Congratulations!!!

Southern Maine has come back from an opening night loss to force the if necessary final against New England.

New England beat Southern Maine in thirteen. Then I saw something I’ve never seen before. The winning team started the brawl in the handshake line. Who knows what was said. But it was easy to see what led up to it and who took the first swings.

lol...i know.  figured from the offense newport had it would have been difficult to win the series, let alone a sweep.  It was all about small ball...every time MU had a runner on first with no outs it was a sac bunt...every time newport had runner on first no outs it seemed to hit into a double play.

best out of 3 starting friday against a comparable wash/jeff team...son is on the DL but enjoying every minute of the experience.

Chapman defeats Birmingham-Southern for the D3 championship. That's the 4th straight year that the champ came out of the West region.

And 2 out of last 3 years from the SCIAC.  

Kudos to Chapman as D3 Champs...met the coaching staff over the Summer of 2016 when 2017 son was at various showcases.  Very impressed with their approach to recruiting and very active talking to kids at the events.  Son was interested but his engineering major did not match up.  However, two of his teammates from his travel ball team are on the team.  19-5 in the SCIAC and 44-12 overall.  Impressive indeed.

Chapman pitcher Tyler Peck drafted by the Cards in the 28th round. 

Is he their reliever who throws so hard (I hear)?

No that is Garcia, and he is a sophomore, unfortunately.  He closes. Peck was their #1 starter.  Their #2 Hernandez was just as good.  Their top 3 guys by inning graduated as did their top 3 hitters, but they are very deep, especially on the hill.
