Excited and nervous at the same time. My job is being awesome and they are letting me work remotely for the next month so I can catch the first 18 games of the season. Three games next weekend to kick off the season then a 15 game homestand.

Memory: The team traveled the first three weekends to avoid the possibility of cold weather. The first weekend was Stanford. I had lived in Southern CA for twenty-two years. My ex wife grew up there. We had friends at the game. We also knew the parents of a Stanford player. They were all bitching how cold it was. We (son’s team parents) were all in light sweaters if even wearing them. It was “freezing” 55 Friday night.
Game #1 in the books yesterday for my son his Sophomore season. Playing JUCO ball at Iowa Central who is ranked in first poll of the season at #6. Son played last season at Bradley and he decided to drop for development purposes to JUCO. Has really enjoyed the development grind and ready to play a bunch this spring. Several teammates including my son committed to 4 year schools over the last couple of months with more to follow. I think there are 7 committed to D1 so far with others on the way.
Grounds crew? Nope. Not in the budget. Welcome to the JuCo experience!

@Consultant @adbono my son interviewed for an internship at a big consulting firm and they asked a battery of behavioral/situational questions. Having no “office” jobs ever, he relied exclusively on talking about leading tarp pulls at his (rather windy) Juco. His stories had everything - perseverance, holding team members accountable. He got the job! That said, he appreciates his D1 grounds crew very much.
I live in the Flathead Valley area of Montana and played hooky last Thursday to ski Whitefish. I rode the chair with a visitor from Fayetteville Arkansas and did a little reminiscing about the 2017 Razorbacks.
Every player and parent will get a different experience, so mileage will vary. As a parent I’m incredibly thankful to U of A for what we experienced and what it meant to my son. Those of you in the middle of a positive college experience, don’t take it for granted, it really is about as good as it gets…

Jealous....I am definitely coming up again for some more fly fishing again this summer. Any small stream recommendations (PM of course
) welcomed. I would probably already be a Montanan except for dealing with aging parent issues, down here in the land of fruit and nuts....We have good friends in Sula and Stevensville so have fished the Bitterroot and various feeders as well as Rock Creek and previously over in Bozeman area of course the Madison and Yellowstone but really prefer hiking in smaller streams to get away from the world.
For those wondering what to do after son graduates...
We are getting ready to go on the road in the next 3 weekends to watch my son's games. Still don't know how much my son will be playing (if at all). What happens in the next 3 weekends dictates how much traveling we will be doing the rest of spring... Excited for the season opener this weekend!

Good luck. Last year I went to see my freshman son's opening series at USC. He insisted he wouldn't play that weekend (he's a PO). Sure enough game 2 he got in in a mop up role.
34 degrees and windy in West Texas. DH starts at noon. Cold weather checklist:
✅ toe warmers
✅ hand warmers & gloves
✅ lightweight wool base layer
✅ stocking cap
✅ thermos full of hot coffee

Snow on the ground now in Poughkeepsie, but team was able to be outside last week for a few days. After beginning their season in NYC area for three games, team is heading to the Great PNW for their spring break trip, so much easier trip from aloha land. Just hope the rain holds off.
Soph son is PO and expects to be used primarily as a reliever but also may start a few midweek games. Massey has team ranked at #238. Hopes are high that team will play over their heads and move as high as #230!
Worst opening season weekend ever, though on Friday Gators broke opening day attendance record.
State of Florida really got a soaking and the storm dumped rain over Gainesville for 2 days!
My dad grew up in Poughkeepsie. Haven't heard of that town in years!

Son got back to Poughkeepsie about 02:30. In a nice upset, took the Sunday game from a super regional host.

After this past weekend's games, Vassar hit #230! Now, it just has to stay there!
