Excited and nervous at the same time. My job is being awesome and they are letting me work remotely for the next month so I can catch the first 18 games of the season. Three games next weekend to kick off the season then a 15 game homestand.
Good luck to everyone. Hoping for a great year of college baseball.
Memory: The team traveled the first three weekends to avoid the possibility of cold weather. The first weekend was Stanford. I had lived in Southern CA for twenty-two years. My ex wife grew up there. We had friends at the game. We also knew the parents of a Stanford player. They were all bitching how cold it was. We (son’s team parents) were all in light sweaters if even wearing them. It was “freezing” 55 Friday night.
Game #1 in the books yesterday for my son his Sophomore season. Playing JUCO ball at Iowa Central who is ranked in first poll of the season at #6. Son played last season at Bradley and he decided to drop for development purposes to JUCO. Has really enjoyed the development grind and ready to play a bunch this spring. Several teammates including my son committed to 4 year schools over the last couple of months with more to follow. I think there are 7 committed to D1 so far with others on the way.

Transferable to D-1?
Bob
“Transferable to D-1?”
@Consultant @adbono my son interviewed for an internship at a big consulting firm and they asked a battery of behavioral/situational questions. Having no “office” jobs ever, he relied exclusively on talking about leading tarp pulls at his (rather windy) Juco. His stories had everything - perseverance, holding team members accountable. He got the job! That said, he appreciates his D1 grounds crew very much.
I live in the Flathead Valley area of Montana and played hooky last Thursday to ski Whitefish. I rode the chair with a visitor from Fayetteville Arkansas and did a little reminiscing about the 2017 Razorbacks.
Every player and parent will get a different experience, so mileage will vary. As a parent I’m incredibly thankful to U of A for what we experienced and what it meant to my son. Those of you in the middle of a positive college experience, don’t take it for granted, it really is about as good as it gets…
Good luck to all those heading into Spring, and hit’m where they isn’t – unless you’re pitching!

Jealous....I am definitely coming up again for some more fly fishing again this summer. Any small stream recommendations (PM of course ) welcomed. I would probably already be a Montanan except for dealing with aging parent issues, down here in the land of fruit and nuts....We have good friends in Sula and Stevensville so have fished the Bitterroot and various feeders as well as Rock Creek and previously over in Bozeman area of course the Madison and Yellowstone but really prefer hiking in smaller streams to get away from the world.
For those wondering what to do after son graduates...
We are getting ready to go on the road in the next 3 weekends to watch my son's games. Still don't know how much my son will be playing (if at all). What happens in the next 3 weekends dictates how much traveling we will be doing the rest of spring... Excited for the season opener this weekend!

Good luck. Last year I went to see my freshman son's opening series at USC. He insisted he wouldn't play that weekend (he's a PO). Sure enough game 2 he got in in a mop up role.
34 degrees and windy in West Texas. DH starts at noon. Cold weather checklist:
✅ toe warmers
✅ hand warmers & gloves
✅ lightweight wool base layer
✅ stocking cap
✅ thermos full of hot coffee
Let’s play ball !
Missing a few things: Recommendations from a friend
✅ Duvet from hotel bed
✅ Tent warmer...under the bed Duvet
✅ Flask with adult beverage of choice.
What a great first weekend of college baseball. Spring is definitely on the way and God Bless ESPN+.
Snow on the ground now in Poughkeepsie, but team was able to be outside last week for a few days. After beginning their season in NYC area for three games, team is heading to the Great PNW for their spring break trip, so much easier trip from aloha land. Just hope the rain holds off. Soph son is PO and expects to be used primarily as a reliever but also may start a few midweek games. Massey has team ranked at #238. Hopes are high that team will play over their heads and move as high as #230!
Worst opening season weekend ever, though on Friday Gators broke opening day attendance record.
State of Florida really got a soaking and the storm dumped rain over Gainesville for 2 days!
My dad grew up in Poughkeepsie. Haven't heard of that town in years!

Son got back to Poughkeepsie about 02:30. In a nice upset, took the Sunday game from a super regional host.
Great! Congrats on the win at Southern Miss! I either forgot or never realized our kids were neighbors!

After this past weekend's games, Vassar hit #230! Now, it just has to stay there!
Knucklehead's season does not start until 3/2 and the intra squads and scrimmages are not doing it for me. Thankfully I have this thread to fill the void!
Are games typically played on the same days? IE fri sat sun? or are they spread throughout the week?

It’s somewhat different at every level of college ball. But it’s usually one (of DH) midweek and a 3 or 4 game series on the weekend. That’s a rough generalization that applies most everywhere

Happy Ivy Opening Day to those who celebrate! Warmer climates, higher-ranked opponents, and hopefully a few wins as well.

Always entertaining to see Ivy outfielders deal with the outdoor conditions on opening day because there has been limited outdoor practices up north! Godspeed.
Tarp has been on in Gainesville!

We got pushed back in Wilmington. So much for Southern sunshine....
Oops; Ivy League teams swept by non-conference teams. But, Stonybrook beats #3 LSU; Kennesaw State beats #10 Clemson 18-1.
Princeton first in the win column, 2-1 over UNC Wilmington.
Kid is injured and may be out for some time. The season starts on Saturday with a spring trip down south starting the following weekend. I am seriously considering pulling out of the trip and risk looking like "that parent". I still have a younger one at home and he is not driving yet and it is real pain in the keyster ferrying him around between different training (football recruit) and to work almost daily. The missus is giving me the blessing to go but she would welcome the help. The soph and other parents are very nice folks so I am pretty sure they would understand.
I wouldnt go. I'd want to save the money. What happened? Hope he heals fast
Thanks everyone. The kid hurt his hand/wrist after BP. Based on the poor details he provided and he switched to a regular bat, I thought it was the hamate. It was his scaphoid, and the pain was greatly reduced the following day. He went for xrays, it was negative. He will rest, see if the pain returns then see a specialist and get better imaging. He had a big test today and couldn't talk so he will call me tonight.
Got to see two weekends of my son's games last week! It was a lot of fun to talk to parents I know and to meet freshmen parents. Team is doing well, weather was good. I won't get back to a live game until the end of the season, but at least the livestreams are good.
Rocky first few weeks. Son's team scuffling. Son is too. Leads team in appearances (8). 0-2 record with one save, against my alma mater no less. Coaches are still trying to sort out which relievers should go in when. Hard to do when the pitching is so unpredictable, though yesterday's dbl header showed promise: one starter threw a complete game but lost 3-1. Other starter went 7 shutout innings and left with a 7-0 lead. The 1st reliever in that game had challenges and gave up 3 runs. My son mopped up. Won 7-3. Hard to believe D3 season is 1/3 over in # of games played.
Kid does not have a fracture and hand is feeling better. He was a PT player but has been FT the past several games but hitting just above the Mendoza line with only a double to show for his power. He did have his best performance in the first conference series and the team took 2 out of 3 games. The team has a lot of high and lows flipping between a power hitting team scoring 10+ runs to getting 3 hits off a pitcher they should be teeing off on. They were off for several days due to the rain and will start a huge conference series over the weekend that will likely determine how much May baseball will be played.
My son's season came to an end last week. He has been battling a stress reaction in his elbow since the summer after his junior year. Took that following fall off to try to heal it, but it looks like now it never really healed 100%. Had an MRI done on his arm after the last time he pitched, turns out the stress reaction turned into a stress fracture (of the olecranon). So today he had a procedure done to put a screw in his elbow to fix the fracture. Back to swinging a bat in 3 months, return to throwing in 4 months, and doc said he should be back to 100% on the mound at the end of the summer.
Good news is that he comes in below the criteria for a medical exemption. The school filed it for him. So looks like he will get a do over on his freshman year with a repaired arm.
For those who have been following Duke, Duke's #1 pitcher (possible 1st round pick) had the same procedure done last season.
Sorry to hear that. Best wishes for a smooth surgery and recovery.
That's too bad, Arceku21, hope he gets through it well.
