Willie Mays turns 89 years young today. On his birthday, the new book, 24, is being released. The book involves over 100 hours of interviews with Willie, who is an intensely private person in many ways.

Many believe Willie was and continues to be the greatest 5 tool player in history. He was starting in the Giants outfield when most players are HS seniors or college freshmen in today’s baseball.
Despite his greatness on baseball fields Willie could not buy the homes he wanted in 1958-59 because of the color of his skin!

Willie came to one our son’s Tball practices many years back. We have many photos from that day along with balls and our son’s first glove autographed by Willie.

What a treasure!

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'

Infield DAD and Cabbage Dad:

Willie help me promote my Tire Business [Burlingame] in 1960's. He visited at my home before he purchased his Atherton home. I had the opportunity to play against the Willie Mays "All Stars" [Banks, Aaron, Newcombe, Irwin] one of the "greatest" teams in baseball.

Happy Birthday Willie;

GOV:

the 1960's Giants were a special team. Tom Haller the catcher was a "special" friend [we played for Moose Jaw]  he later became the Giants GM. He asked if I wanted to throw BP before the Giants game. Yes, I did.Why NOT?

Hank Sauer, Giants scout like my "fast ball" and he jumped into the batting cage and I threw him a "change up"!

"The rest is history"!
