Ken, I agree with you 100%. 20 D1 signees is as good as it gets. Congralations and continued success to all of these young men.

My question was, basically, if this was from just one team or combined with multiple teams in the 18U age group, from the Mustangs and DBAT.

Since there is a 20 man roster limit in AABC, this team should end up in Farmington.

This is not just one 18u team. This is a list of the 18u players within the organization that have committed. There are players on the 18u "top" team that have yet to make a commitment. Im not trying to start a controversy on who is on the "top" team I'm just stating that all these players might not have the chance to play in Farmington(God willing).

With that said... This list really shows the strength of this organization and a big congrats goes out to all.

Curious,

Shouldn't the recognition and discussion be for the players success versus the organization they played with while doing such?

I actually don't have a problem with people asking what organization a kid played for for two reasons...

1) It helps us answer the eternal question, "what organization gives my son the best chance of getting a college scholarship!"
2) It's a team game, right?

#21 2008 Dallas Mustangs/Carpenter

Five hours to go anyone left?

And a great #21 addition to the D1 Mustang Family.

The A-Train will be a force on the mound for DBU.

Congratulations from your friends at the rival school.

What's the old saying?

Can't make chicken salad out of chicken _ _ _ _.

If a kid is good, respects the game, and has desire......

In all honesty, it really don't matter what summer team he plays for.

The concern for me as a player and parent would be which team enhances.....

good, respect, and desire.

Everything else takes care of itself.

Kind of scary but...KG, you are absolutley right again!!

I know of kids that never played with a "top club team" never had elite instruction, and were never recruited by any "top schools" but had enormous desire, a true respect for the game and it's history and feared nothing, especially failure, a--hole coaches and people that told them they "couldn't".

They worked on their game when everyone else was socializing or when everyone else thought the weather was bad or when they thought they had done enough for the day. As a result of the desire and commitment to working harder than everyone else, they could flat out play and ended up making it to top 25 NCAA D-1 programs and finished it up in pro ball.

If the kid can play, has tools to work with, and works his rear end off, he can achieve great things.
The main thing summer organizations do for any player is put them in front of college coaches at top tournaments where they then have the opportunity to perform in a team setting and may catch someone's eye. Good players will then display all the attributes coaches are looking for and others will not... the cream always rises to the top.

Even so, it is still an imperfect science, and were it not for the guidance and assistance of people like Cade Griffis, Sam Carpenter, Shayne Currin, Tommy Hernandez and the many other summer coaches who communicate regularily with college coaches some very good players might still be overlooked. I'm sure these gentlemen would give all the credit to the players for their accomplishments, but they also deserve some thanks for the job they do for these young men.

Agreed,

And I believe all 4 of those men would say the same thing I just said in my last post.

We as coaches can put together the best schedule, have the best contacts, and have a valued opinion...

But the player must take ultimate control of his destination.

I can tell you of several kids I saw play on other teams, besides the one I coached, that I recommended to college coaches looking for a player. Most of those teams would be considered inferior by this boards standards.

And most importantly, I think way too much emphasis is put on getting "that opportunity".

It's what you do with "that opportunity", whatever opportunity it is.

Opportunities are only that, but character, desire, and respect for the game will always prevail regardless of the venue the player is involved with.

How many D1 signees do you hear of that eventually fade with a memory?

How many small college signees do you hear of that plug away and end up in professional baseball?

Either example does not elimate the success stories of the visa versa...but I can think of many more of the later example.

Kudus to Cade, Sam, Shayne, Tommy, and any other mentor that puts forth the time to help young adults achieve their goals.

But even more kudos to those men who prepare those young men how to succeed in whatever life adventure they proceed in.

Even if baseball isn't involved.

Because most likely, baseball won't be involved for the vast majority sooner rather than later.

Then what will they do?

Hopefully not spending time on baseball message boards like me. Smile

I agree that not playing with a top organization to a certain degree. If the player is high caliber then I agree. However, a player can be projectable and if not with a top organization no one will see them play unless playing against another organization. Lets not get twisted the reputation of the organization has a tremendous impact on the recruiting process. The player referenced by 4genball in my opinion is the exception and not the norm.

SWAC, does this mean that politics play a big part in recruiting?

Cade and DBat did a tremendous job of placing my son in a position
to be seen. The Marshals did work for us too and we are very grateful.

But what you're talking here for most players comes from Mom and Dad.
Maybe granddad and grandma or a brother or uncle.

Rockson has had many coaches and he remembers them all. Maybe 3 he'll
remember more down the road for something extra they gave him.
But for the most part, good and bad, he got from home.

-----------
Congratulations to all the players on list. Travis played at some
time with all but a very few. And that's what he'll take away, I think,
more than the coaching. He'll remember the teammates and opponents - the
games, the dugout chatter, and the friendships.

I have made the latest additions to the list...We have some more making choices over the next couple of days...We hope to be at 50 by months end...

Thanks to our parents and our 18U staff that includes Kermit Dow, Dave Ostroff, Ralph Ross, Brian Jones, and Barry Hoffpaiur for all of their efforts in helping all of our Seniors get a chance to play ball at the next level...

Yes, Thank you to the coaches! I know Ralph Ross has done a great job helping his seniors find a good fit!

Cade was also helpful and was always willing to answer questions and give advice.
