2 things...

What games are today in the Central Region?
LD at Cosby
DR at Hanover
TD at Matoaca
what else?

Can you keep us updated on potential rain outs? It just rained sideways for about 20 minutes in the West End. Dont know if that will effect games. Lets us know if you hear something.

Thanks

TCWPreps master schedule is getting populated daily.

Check it ... www.scorebook.com/tcwpbaseball

Click on SCHEDULE/RESULTS and select individual team or ALL TEAMS to see the entire slate of games across the commonwealth.
The scorebook is an awesom tool! Just went on it for the first time.

There are defnitely some good early match ups-

Hopefully the rain will not win out today!

Lee Davis/Cosby is always good
James River/Bird could be JR's first test
Matoaca/TD long standng rivalry -
Deep Run/Hanover- two evenlymatched teams

and my favorite...

Midlothian/Clover Hill....

Midlothian opened with JR and Cosby. They played them both closer than expected and showed signs of promise from what I heard. They are in a consecutive 20 some game loss run...Clover Hill took a shot at Cosby Tusday and from the looks of the box score used alot of their pitching ....Could this be the end of the streak or will it cotinue for another week?
"James River/Bird could be JR's first test"

I'm thinking that playing the region's # 2 team at its home field, using a pitcher who'd never before thrown a varsity inning, was a pretty good first test. Facing a senior year starting pitcher who has signed with VMI was a pretty decent second test. The fact that both those tests were passed with flying colors doesn't mean the opponents were patsies.

But it is an opportunity for LCB to show that it can back up the hopes of its fans. And typically, no one wins every game. So if JR comes in cocky, we'll see if LCB can make them pay for it. Cocky or not, I suspect JR will have 88-92 mph Jack Roberts on the hill, so it's a tall order. But perhaps we'll see the best of Nick Conner in response and have a dogfight on our hands. That would sure be fun to watch!

Game time is 6:00 p.m. I'll be there if it isn't rained out.

As for Midlothian, there was a nice write up in today's Midlothian Exchange (RTD supplement) that detailed Midlo's narrow loss at Powhatan. Powhatan is a contender for the AA state title, so playing them tight was another sign that things are being put to right for the Trojans. I look forward to seeing my alma mater acquit itself better and better as the spring moves along.
Maybe the Midlo streak will end today if they play.

Matoaca/Thomas Dales postponed until Monday

One thing that jumped out at me in the JR line score from the Midlothian game was that JR committed 4 errors.
I think LCB could be the toughest test they have had if Conner performs.

Happened at Manchester...I think manchester is a better team than 17-1
Initially looked like we might have a nice tight game. It was chilly and damp and Roberts was around 87, low for him. LCB hit the ball well in the 1st but had only a single to show for it. Harman looked very good in the 1st, quick 1-2-3, 84-86, got some guys chasing the ball up.

But LCB never could string hits together. Bottom 2, Harman lost the strike zone, walked in the first run, then tried to get Casey Jones to chase a high fastball 0-2. But he didn't get it up enough and Jones just missed a grand slam with a bases-clearing double.

From there the game was kind of sleepy. JR got 2 more in the 3d, Parnell had an RBI hit there (I forget how the other run scored). Lawless had a 3-run HR in the 6th but by then they were just counting down the outs. Roberts went six, gave up some hits and didn't K many but was pretty much in control throughout. Got the benefit of 2 nice DP's and one questionable call at 1st to smooth things along. Hunter Lohr entered I think in the 3rd and pitched pretty well but also walked some guys, especally ahead of Lawless' HR.

I don't know the totals but LCB probably had more hits than JR. The strategy of throwing 2 lefties was pretty sound and one that other teams might take note of. Had it not been for all the walks we'd've had more of a ballgame, though I guess you still would have the problme that you can't win if you don't score. It does make me wonder what happens if JR sees, e.g., Michael Boyle in the regionals.

At this point JR is 4-0 and has outscored opponents 42-3. And Kirby hasn't pitched yet. Actually I was kind of hoping he'd get his first work today but it didn't happen, Parnell closed (with a K and 2 easy ground outs). What does it say when you're missing an ace and you hold your opponents to less than one run per game?

MIDLO wins over clover hill 9-6...first win since april 2009 !! huge 1st inning with a 3 run HR and 2 run HR. Then had to hold on to win at the end. Glad to see the monkey off the back. Play Monacan next, which should be a good game.

I bet Midlo celebrated that win as much as any team out there today and I imagine it was a tough loss for. The Cavs

The Midlo players were pretty excited after having lost their last 24 games; after field maintenance, they were able to dump the water cooler on the coach...only 1 win, but 8-9 of the players went thru last year's debacle, so it was a long time coming ! Now they have to out and prove they can win again.
6 Teams will make the Dominion District Tournament -

JR and Cosby seem to be pretty certain along with LCB and possibly Manchester I suspect

That leaves Midlthian, Clover Hil, and Monacan to pick up the other 2 spots. Midlo-Monacan-Clover Hill games will all have serious implications as I think those are the ones who will battle for the 5 and 6th spots.

Truthfully I think Midlothian may have caught Clover Hill at a good time..Two days before they played, Clover Hill went through who may have been their top pitchers against Cosby according to the box score I saw

In Districts like that teams have to pick their battles and beat the teams they are supossed to beat and not throw their pitching against teams they not beat any way
With 6 out of 7 teams making the tourney, they ought to just seed them all and let 'em all play. Just one bye, to the regular season champ.

With the city teams gone, this is like musical chairs. One team has no chair when the season ends. When you eliminate only one team, that's kind of silly. Either eliminate more, or none.

It wasn't that long ago the district tourney was for only the top 4.

IMO the coach is doing a good job with a young roster and he is also hindered by lack of depth at every position; his 2 most experienced pitchers are playing catcher and CF because he hasn't any viable replacements. So far they have matched or out hit their opponents, just can't get them across.[/QUOte
Looks like the Midlo starting catcher & clean-up hitter may have quit today...not good for Midlo after their 1st win (where he hit a 3-run HR) in a long and being competitive in every game, long time..I hope the kid reconsiders as Midlo needs him. As stated above, experience and depth at a premium.
That is amazing to me as well...could have quit before ir started and given someone else a chance to partcipate.
Have always said....some guys are unhappy when the get cut..then they make the tea$ and are unhappy because they don't start...then they start and don't like their spot in the order...then the bat where they want to and want to pitch....goes on and on.
In this case must be some special circumstances involved..run in with the coach? Discipline issue?

I agree Midlo. Play them all OR seed the top 4 IMHO and be done with it. While we're at it, we should play back to back games in the regular season district games like they do in college. In that manner, you will see the top pitching that each team can offer. There is no hiding or ducking a pitcher or matchup. Your top 4 teams will be your top 4 teams if you follow that format.

I hate to see kids quit or get dismissed if that is true. I hope they can work it out at Midlothian.

The playoff argument comesup alot in football. In our region only 4 make it from D6 and 4 from D5.
This has led to teams with 9-1 records not making the playoffs over the years....when thhat happens folks clamor for a 6 team system like thay have in most Regions.
It always comes and goes though...the year u change the system a sub .500 team gets in and everyone wants the old system back.

Dominion changed their system i think 3 years ago....at the time givn the strength of tne teams it seemed Ok...now that has changed and you do not seem to have 6 teams that would be considered "playoff " teams.

Do Capital,Colonial, and Central have 6 team formats?

Capital is a four team tourney. I believe everyone gets in for the Colonial, but the first round games for the top three teams are generally a glorified bye. Although MWGS did give Tucker a game last night.
