It’s not a good idea to try to play two sports in college until the player has established himself in his primary sport.

It’s tough.  At my kid’s D3 school there are 2 players who play both football and Baseball.  While their competition for playing time is playing summer ball and doing Baseball specific workouts, and then practicing in Fall Ball, the football players are missing all of that.

RJM not sure what you mean by establishing self in primary sport??  While I generally agree at this point Id prefer mine focus on baseball, he enjoys football and its his life so I support him...the biggest thing imo is what I said earlier...at the college level, in fall football player misses fall baseball and in spring the baseball player misses spring football...both are very important...but until one of the coaches puts an end to it or son does it himself, its reality.  Hes been relatively successful so far and its paying for school...

Often what occurs is they spend the first year with the focus on their primary sport. Once established they will start in with the second sport the following year. Fall ball is important to a baseball player in establishing himself. The same for spring football.
