I know it is still football season and thanksgiving is on the way and basketball will kick up soon. But I didn't know if i could spark some conversation.  Does anyone want to talk about predictions, players, schools anything baseball wise?

Teams in the 4A Conference 22 and some key returners (that i know of)

Chancellor- RHP-Jason Morgan (UNC chapel hill commit) rhp Lemaster (not sure if graduated)
Courtland- OF/LHP Zach Teeple back and SS C.Colbert
King George- RHP/OF- Lane Ward (Norfolk State commit) DH Zak Kegley
Eastern View- LHP stead, rhp- C. Finkle  SS Nate Yates
Fauquier- Lhp/OF C. Simmons INF G. Cranford (not sure if he graduated)
Liberty-Bealeton- Rhp/1b Logan Aylor  3b/rhp Brock Smith

Is there anybody that should be on this list, i went with 2 names that i remember from each team, anybody else in the conference commit to college yet.

this should be a good conference, it is a combination of the Battlefield District and the Evergreen district.  Including Last years Evergreen district champs Liberty and Battlefield District Champs Eastern View. I do not see any weak teams in this conference and the tourney at the end of the year should create a great watch. I know some schedules are out but not sure how to get them all. Here is what i can find and i know some are incomplete.

With the new conference alignments, this will make for some interesting match-ups along the way. Here are a few thoughts:   Fauquier - keep an eye on junior Ryan Simpson...he and Brock Smith played together in the fall with the RBA South Predators...good stick and athletic.  EV - their x factor is the manager!  No one gets more out of his team than Coach Nobbs...they will be a formidable opponent. Chanc - I know the Morgan kid can be lights out....do they have enough elsewhere to be a contender?  Liberty - They lost allot from last year, but they still have talent.  The question is who will be their #2 after (CNU commit) Logan Aylor??  They have arms, but who will take that spot.  Featheroff looks to be a solid defensive catcher and Ryan Fogle, Austin Stewart and Coy Brown need to step up and be productive. I do not know much about Courtland???  In conclusion, this looks like a wide open conference...I think anyone could win it!  most likely the team that does not beat themselves and is the most healthy at the end of the season will take the title...

Just looking at 4A South, because is all I am failiar with...

Cannot figure out how Powhatan is not in 20... The Midlothian rivalry could be born

When you look at Smithfield in the other South conference ...seems Dinwiddie can go over there easier... and switch Powhatan into 20?

Could be some good baseball in 20 with Hanover, Tucker, Glen Allen, Dinwiddie, Midlo and Monacan in time. Some of these programs are a bit down - but have potential to be stronger than this past season.

I found out yesterday that the region 4A North will break down like this:

4A North consist of Conference 21, 22, 23 and 24 a total of 28 teams. There are 23 teams in Region 4A south.

But here is how 4A north will stack for regionals.

Conference 24 champ vs conference 23 runner up

Conference 22 champ vs conf. 21 runner up

Conf. 21 champ vs conf. 22 runner up

Conf. 23 champ vs Conf 24 runner up.

Teams that went to regionals or states last year in these conferences,

Conference 21

Sherando beat tunstall for state championship

Woodgrove lost in states,

Millbrook lost in regionals

Conference 23

Amherst lost in states

Conference 24

Bassett lost in states

Conference 22

Eastern View lost in regionals

Liberty lost in regionals

Fauquier lost in regionals

The conference tournaments basically replace the district tournament though I don't think the conference has to have a tournament.  They can award the playoff berths based on how the teams finish in the conference, but I imagine there will be conference tournaments.  And if it's anything like football was in the fall, it's not just wins and losses, but "points" as well.  Somehow (and I'm not quite sure how it works) the team earns points based on the strength of their opponents throughout the season.  If anyone has a better understanding of how it can work, feel free to correct me.

I do remember an article that stated something to the effect, there can be "district" tournaments, but they essentially won't mean anything.

In conference 22, it will go as this: Every team makes the conference tournament at the end of the year, your seeding will be based on your conference record, seeding will go as follows 1 and 2 get a bye, then 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5. If you make it to the conference championship game then you will move on to regional's, with winner of the tourney getting the #1 seed and runner up being the #2 seed.  District games, district tournaments mean nothing at all they are basically now the "out of district" games, a place to get guys some work.  There are now point system, there was talks but i guess this is the way they decided to go.

There will also be no more all-district teams but only all conference and there is no more 2nd team all-state, there is only first team and honorable mention.

The weather has put a damper on everything though, still trying to get excited, then now i am hearing something of rain or snow on monday. I guess we will wait and see. Are there any scrimmages happening this week?

Zeus,

Thanks for clearing that up.  Wasn't sure.  From what I do remember each conference is free to determine the method of which two teams advance from the conference.

Not sure about the other schools, but KG has scrimmages against Massaponax  (Home) and Culpeper (away) on the 7th and 13th.  KG's opening game is at home vs Eastern View on the 18th.

And yeah, there's storm off the coast of CA that's suppose to be here by Sunday night/Monday morning - anything from rain to wintry mix to snow.  No firm forecast yet.

Tuesday's EV @ KG was postponed to 3/26.  No "roundup" reports in the Free-Lance Star so I'm assuming no games were played.  Heck - no baseball previews yet either.

KG travels to Liberty Friday.  I give it a 50/50 chance they actually play.  Still quite a bit of snow on the ground.  Even if it all melts by Friday (rain today and warmer temps forecast for Thursday & Friday) the fields will probably be marginal at best.

And from what I'm hearing more inclement weather is in the forecast for Tuesday next week.  Ugh!

ADDENDUM: - Baseball previews will be published Friday in the Free-Lance Star.

Liberty 12   King George 8

Logan Aylor gets the win and has 3 doubles at the plate.  Austin Booth goes 4 for 5 and Catcher Tyler Fetheroff  goes yard with a shot over the center field fence.  Brock Smith with the save.  Very entertaining game.  both teams showed some rust in the field but overall a very good game.  King George has talent for sure!
