Hello,

We enrolled our son into a 529 state college savings plan way back when he was a small child. As long as he stays in state and gets accepted at a state public university, his tuition will be paid for. Now he he getting interest from both D1 and D3 schools for playing baseball.

Can someone tell me if we can accept scholarship money (athletic or academic) when we already have a 529 plan in place? If we can't use the scholarship money for tuition, can we use it for any additional scholarship money for books, transportation, laptop, supplies, summer school, etc.? Since basically he has his college paid for, how can we use the 529 plan as a bargaining chip? Any thoughts? Thanks.
