I posted this question on Houston 5A and wanted to bring it on the HSBBW since I know there are many more North Texas folks here.

So I was stuck at work on Saturday afternoon and decided to flip on the 5A title game between Plano West and Carroll. The first thing I noticed was the complete lack of fans at Dell Diamond. I text Randy the owner of Houston 5A since I know he is there and ask him if they have announced the attendence yet. Turns out the reported number was 2500 fans which to me is a huge disappointment. Looking at the UIL website doing some comparisons I found the following for 5A attendance in the championship game:

2008-2500
2007-Not listed
2006-Not listed
2005-5310
2004-6431
2003-7512
2002-5422
Earlier years I could not locate.

Now I dont know a whole lot about Plano West and how they usually travel fan wise, but we all know that SLC travels HUGE crowds for football every year. One would think that with PW in the midst of a great season, they would bring a ton of people. So with those two factors, why such a small crowd at the biggest game of the year?

I hope I'm right in saying this.

North Texas school's main focus is on football each and every year. Baseball is not as big as it is in the houston area. Another reason may be because both communities are rather wealthy, so I'm guessing that the people in Plano and Southlake would rather watch the game at their house on a nice big screen tv. But that is just a stab in the dark. The game was also at noon. I don't think people would want to spend money on hotels or let their kids stay at hotels from the previous night's semi-final game. You would have to leave the house at 9 to make the noon start time (traffic?). Now I'm just crossing my reasoning. So, I think it is just because North Texas doesnt follow baseball as much as they do football.

Or...

This is really bush-league. You guys from Houston come on here to question the attendance at the 5A Championship game just because it was two North Texas teams?!?!?!? cry

GET A LIFE!

Congratulations to both Plano West and SouthLake Carroll for great seasons and representing North Texas baseball so well (with class)!

Hey wait a minute. The "You Guys" statement shouldnt include me. All I did was fill in the missing years. I was just providing "fact", you know, media. Then I included some photo albums for yalls enjoyment.
Natural, how is it bush league to post a question based on something I noticed? Its simple fact (look at the numbers) that Saturday's game was the least attended championship game in at least7 years and I was just curious why.

As for the standing in the shade comment I'm sure people where up there but the paid attendance was still only 2500. It may have looked more full than what was shown on TV but its still only 2500.
These are high school kids. The greatest game of their lives. A great memory for their parents and classmates. The only posts about this game should be to congratulate the players from both schools on a job well done.

Questioning the attendance and then posting the supposed past attendance figures when there were two Houston teams in the game has only one purpose. It is not informative, it is a derogatory slap at the teams involved. Next time try tipping your hat to the players who accomplished something and leaving it at that.

Trust me, there is no back-handed slap intended. Randy can vouch for me as being nothing but a huge hs baseball fan. I was simply disappointed at the lack of fan support especially with it being on tv for only the 2nd time.
Both the SLC and PW players could give a rats arse about how many people were in the stands and what's said on this site about it. Those kids were in the Championship game of the the biggest district in the best state in our country. That is all they will remember and care about. It's the parents here who are complaining and worried about who is saying what about attendance and other things. I think we all congratulate each and every player on both teams.
Maybe it's "ALL' us parents who need to "GET A LIFE".

It's called finals, graduation, parties, families in town for graduation. Poor scheduling on the UIL's part.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but weren't all the things you listed happening every other year as well when there were 10,000 people at the other state championships? Just an observation.
