I suppose we tap dance around here often -- for good reason most of the time. At the risk of offending some, I think Klein Collins wins this series....with relative ease. I only saw GT play two games so my view is limited -- and I've not seen Collins at all. But I thought Plano West was as good as GT....and probably should have won the series. From what I saw and witnessed, I imagine the GT versus TWHS series was all about emotion and the team that stayed cool won. If Klein Collins swept Tyler Lee....I think they can sweep the Eagles.

Having aired my opinion....that's why they play the game, eh? Cool
Panther Dad,
You did only see Georgetown play 2 games so you have your opinion. However, you should know that Georgetown has defeated several really good teams this year. I felt like we really were flat against West due to all the waisted travel on Thursday and graduating Friday evening and travelling again on Saturday and were fortunate to advance considering how we played against a solid West team. The first two games were tight and couldve gone either way, but the third game was a run rule. How do you think West shouldve won the series based on the two games you saw since one of them was stopped due to the run rule?
Klien Collins is a good club but I think our boys will give them all they can handle and more. Just to reference my earlier comment: Georgetown has defeated Southlake Carroll twice,Keller, Cy-Fair( still playing, plus 9 wins in a nasty district, and the playoff wins over district Champion A/M Consolidated, Lufkin, district champion The Woodlands and Plano West. They have played a tough schedule and played it well. We will just see how it goes, because your right - thats why they play the games.

Haven't seen Georgetown play. But if they knocked The Woodlands out then I think they are in good shape against Collins. H5AB said Gtown doesn't strike out a lot..Klein Collins is very sound defensively with a D1 middle infield and what I think is the best pitching staff in the state.

It's tough but I'll take Collins in 3...G'town sounds like they have a lot of fight in them.
OneEagle -- my post was simply an observation. I'm not bashing the Eagles. Obviously, they are a very good team -- average teams don't beat the Woodlands in a series, nor do they make it to the Regional finals. My observation was based on reports that Plano West could have (probably should have) won game 1 in GT, followed by the game 2 PW win. In G1, the Wolves outhit the Eagles and left several runners in scoring position in a 2-1 game that was won on groundball single (with a fortunate hop) that scored two runs. GT was shut down in game 2. You're right, game 3 wasn't close. The weather and the travel took it's toll on both teams. West's pitching was used up as one of their relievers had a sore arm. I am not making excuses for Plano West -- trust me on that one -- I don't even like them. Wink Part of the basis of my prediction is also based on the fact that Tyler Lee handled a very good Rowlett team....and was subsequently swept by Klein Collins. In addition, it did not appear to me (again, I acknowledge the fact that I only watched 2 games) that GT dominates games with pitching, offense, or defense. Many, many great teams win games with this balanced approach. But I think those teams are at a disadvantage in playoff series. Plano East was like that in 2003 and was mowed down by a dominating Round Rock team.

You know, I really just wanted to stimulate a little conversation about this series. I know both groups are excellent HS baseball teams. My opinions are not meant to disrespect GT. I certainly won't be shocked if the Eagles triumph.

Besides, I did not play the game at a high level....but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last week. Cool
Beast, Klein Collins also had 5 errors, but made key defensive plays when required. And fyi, Klein Collins did not pitch their #1 in either game. I'll say this about Tyler Lee, they are a gritty, battle all the way team.

H5AB, now that Katy is out of it, you just don't know what to do with yourself. On what basis do you say "Collins pitchers will have to perform better than they have the last couple of series"? The facts are KC has given up a combined total of 7 runs in the last 4 games (last two series). That's less than 2 runs per game.

GT may beat KC. There are no guarantees in baseball. Obviously, GT has a great team. I hope KC gets by this round, as they say 3's a charm.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all year I have plenty of baseball to cover yet and Klein Collins is one of the teams I look forward to covering as I have been since January.

Now, as to my comments to their pitching, WALKS, WALKS, & WALKS! They better cut down on their walks or they could pay a stiff price against Georgetown!! Collins is the most dominating team Ive seen in HS baseball, since the days of the 95,02,&03 Elkins Knights, 94&99 Bellaire Cardinals, but you can't continue to give up 5 plus walks per game without it eventualy coming back to bite you in the rear.
Collins hasn't thrown their #1 in the past 2 series. I did notice that in game 2 of the Collin/Lee series that KC's pitcher walked a lot. He usually has very good command of the strike zone with 3 different pitches. The thing about KC is that if they walk 5 in a game they still have a 2:1 K/BB ratio. They are no doubt a power pitching team and they will strike people out.

When your #4 has signed a scholarship with Blinn, then you know your team can pitch.
Hey, if a strategy has been working, stick with it...
Time to take two in a row, ctiger

Carroll can't make early lead stand up in Game 1 defeat

HARLINGEN -- The comeback kids from Carroll are going to have to do it again.

The Tigers baseball team rallied to win their last three playoff series, and they're going to have to repeat that feat if they want to keep their amazing postseason run going. That's because sixth-ranked Harlingen South stopped Carroll 7-1 Thursday night in Game 1 of their best-of-3 Region IV-5A championship playoff series at WhiteWing Field. Game 2 is at 7 p.m. at Cabaniss Field and Game 3, if necessary, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Texas A&M-Kingsville's Nolan Ryan Field.

The District 27-5A runner-up Tigers (25-17 overall) who are making their first Region IV-5A appearance since 1993 when they reached the state semifinals that year find themselves in familiar territory after dropping the opener in each of their past three playoff series only to win all three.

"We're in a familiar position but this isn't the way I drew (this series) up," Tigers coach Lee Yeager said. "We're confident that we can come back (in this series), but we don't want to have to keep doing it this way."

"It's good to win Game 1 but I don't know what to think right now -- we know that they've come back so many times before," Hawks coach Tony Leal said. "We have a lot of respect for them -- we know that this series isn't over."

SAN ANTONIO Moody sophomore Marc Gomez can always count on his teammates to come through in a close game.

Sometimes it just takes a while.

The Trojans (36-3 overall) scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim a 6-1 victory over Uvalde in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the Region IV-4A championship. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Whataburger Field, with a third to follow, if necessary.
Stings take Game 1 of regional finals

TEXAS CITY — As soon as Blake Apffel saw the ball caught in right field, he bolted from third base as fast as he could.

“It felt like I’d never get home,” Apffel admitted. “I try to be a fast runner, but I’m not really sure if I am one.”

Apffel was fast enough, scoring the winning run for Texas City on Cory Blair’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning. The run gave the Stings a 4-3 victory over the Montgomery Bears in Game 1 of the best-of-three Class 4A, Region III finals Thursday night.
