FanO -- I have not seen SLC and don't know much about them ('cept that have a few JV call-ups that play for DBAT -- oops! Smile) Allen has enough pitching to win in a 3-game series. The question for the Eagles is -- will they hit?

Scheuhler, Bingham, Dougherty, and Morganti all threw 25+ innings and all four were effective. Three of the 4 had at least 2 saves (Dougherty had one) --- they can mix and match. All this while missing Shawn Tolleson! Allen plays good defense as well.

All this being said, SLC seems to peek at this time of the year. They sent FM home last year.

It will be a good series.

I think this will go to 3 games for sure...Both teams have solid pitching Reid and Green and Scheuler and Bingham, but you have to keep in mind how hot the SLC bats are right now. They are putting up a lot of runs- very solid lead-off man and Green and Reid hit in 3 and 4 hole. Allen is also a good hitting team however so this should be a great matchup....you can bet my cell phone will be out while I watch the Panthers beat Martin!
Since none of us are working, I shall lay the gauntlet down. The series could go either way and could make for some very good, spirited baseball.

I think game one is huge. If the starter tonight for Allen (I know who that is) brings his "A" game, the score will be low. I see small ball in the forecast tonight. Winds are currently out of NNW @ 16 mph. If you are familiar with the field, that makes for great junk pitches for pitchers and possiblities for hitters on what typically is a pitcher's yard.

I've followed the LSC conference this year and I just knew there was a catcher from Plano East on the team so I assumed he must be yours. ..... Yes, ASU has been hot. I think that J.W. Nastopil (sp?) has been named Pitcher of the Year for the LSC. What looks really tough to me is getting slots into the NCAA Regional. One or two really good teams from this region may get left out.
The Plano East catcher is Matt Lenderman -- an '03 graduate who played in the White Sox minor league system. When Matt was released, he enrolled at ASU and will be eligible next year (I think).

ASU RAM FAN's son ('04 grad) attended Frisco HS and played for the inaugural Red Hawks 18U after his junior season. He was an All-district player at FHS. His brother also played there. Sorry to lay out your bio, ARF. Smile I hope my memory was decent.

ASU's coach is a solid skipper....an assistant at HSU during my oldest son's career there.

That catcher from Plano East is Matt Linderman. My son actually went to Frisco, but we live in Plano.

Had not heard that about JW. He has had a great year. He deserves it.

The 3 automatic bids are conference champs: Central OK, Incarnate Word, and either S. Ark, or W. Alabama. Hopefully the top 3 in the regional ranking will get in. That would be Delta State, Abilene Christian, and ASU. we will find out either Sunday or Monday.
Bingham started and through fairly well with the exception of giving up 2 home runs early to the same hitter (I believe). Morganti followed Bingham with Scheuler following him.

SLC hit the daylights out of the ball. 11-3 was the final. The lefty that started on the bump for SLC was not overpowering, but did a good job of keeping the hitters off balance.

I only got to see the last game of this series, but was impressed with SLC hitters. You simply cannot throw a fastball by these hitters. Defensively, SLC is suspect based on what I saw today, and what I heard.

Allen was plagued by the same problem they had most of the year, lack of offense. That said, they advanced further that I would have thought based on losing the ace of the staff early on. Scheuler game up big all year and should be very proud of what he was able to prove not only to the fans and teammates, but to himself.

Allen should be looking pretty solid for next year losing just Scheuler (3rd base) and Baughtman (Catcher) from the regular position players. Pitching will be suspect early, but alot of experience in the field.

Best of luck to SLC in the next round.

Wow. Can't believe it. Just saw this update on the NCAA DII polls. According to this, both Miss. State (Statemen) and Angelo State Rams didn't make the regional play-offs. The conference tournaments turned out to be critical, great teams getting squeezed out. I'm sorry, ASU got ripped. :
"The Statesmen, however, will not be making the trip to Abilene as they dropped from No. 2 in last week's regional poll to out of the tournament field after a severe shakeup in the final regional poll of the season. Also dropping out of the regional tournament was Angelo State. Delta State finished No. 5 in the regional poll and Angelo State at No. 6, but those two dropped out of the field when two other teams with automatic qualifying bids -- Central Oklahoma out of the Lone Star Conference and Incarnate Word out of the Heartland Conference -- moved into the bottom seeds in the field."
