A better question might be, how did Coppell get three pitchers on the 1st Team All District? Hermans-MVP, Apple and Swinton (a soph.?)?

Were there no other pitchers in the District that could have/should have made the 1st Team listing. I find it hard to believe in this very tough district.

Sounds to me like, much like has been stated before, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Coppell must have been pretty squeaky at the District selection meeting.
I realize this voting in very subjective and I have no personal skin in this fight. It was only an observation. I do however find it hard to believe that in this district a sophmore pitcher was selected on the 1st Team. But I'm sure there were reasons beyond my comprehension.

As far as one coach having "buddies" or being the "local favorite", it's possible but I have no comment on that. However, how about the idea of the district coaches being tired of seeing the same teams going to the playoffs, year after year, and therefore not voting for players on those teams? Hmmmm...perhaps??
If the coaches hold grudges because of the ongoing excellence of their district rivals, then they need to re-examine their coaching "morality". The post-season fluff isn't about the coaches. Besides, Coppell has consistently been at or near the top of the district standings....vendetta logic might indicate that the Cowboys players receive fewer votes as a result....not more.

Are there politics in the voting? Sure. Are kids "overlooked" because of their coaches? Probably, from time to time. The most straight-forward question to ask is....what were the district stats?.....not preseason or non-district or playoffs. Also, consider the positions of the "bottom" teams best players ---- at times, those teams find their only representation there. In some cases, it is a matter of how players are "boarded" or "advertised" by their coaches.

From an experienced viewpoint, these awards are nice. It's great to be recognized. In the larger scheme of life, they're flair....like other awards.

PD, I agree.

I don't think most HS coaches sit around thinking of ways to promote, or denegrate their district opposing coaches.

Most of these guys are respected colleagues, if not friends. They generally support each other, but even if they have an issue with another coach, do they take it out on some deserving kid?

Like PD said, if they do, they need to find other work. Personally, I think that RARELY happens. I think most vote how they saw the kids play, period.
Also, Coach English deserved the District Coach of the Year. His team won our district fairly easily. The All-District teams are based on District stats. So, based on district stats, Coach English is coach of the year.

Now, if you want to talk about post-season awards, then...I want to nominate myself for coach of the year. Razz Big Grin Cool Wink

The Flower Mound Marcus Atheletic department is going to need a bigger door so FD can fit his big head through it.

Great season for FD and the guys at Flower Mound Marcus. We were really rooting for ya...
