60 times

Change what ???????????

Maybe that was meant to be private? But anyway, speaking of 60 times, my son ran the absolute best 60 he's ever run at a Blue-Grey event last month. I know they don't use lasers like PG but heck, we'll take it.

Yes, we were there on the 29th of June. Were you? How were your times? Did they seem in line with what you usually do?

You son is a catcher ---so why be so concerned with his 60 speeds ?

Yeah, I think I was at that one...was it a thursday?

Anyway, my 60 time actually wasn't my best there. I ran a 6.87 I believe, and at Clark U I ran a much better time.

I guess I just assumed, catcher or not, that it was something to be concerned about. You know better than I, do scouts and recruiters take his position into consideration? It seems that at camps and showcases that the players and staff place a helluva lot of importance on the 60.

For a catcher, at least to us, the arm, mechanics behind the plate and bat are more important than his foot speed. We could add calling a game as a key element but most HS kids are not given that liberty

Meaning a great 60 time doesn't always translate into what's important come game time?

meaning it is one tool/ability that needs to be used correctly

Speed means nothing if the player does not know how to use it in the field and on the bases


A 6.4 60 does not mean the player knows how to run the bases

Sorry, I was refering to another post about a player that had gotten the wrong 60 time posted and the coach said he would take care of changing it. My response was to follow up and make sure it was changed and not take it for granted that the coach changed it!

You see it all too often- guys that can burn forget to learn outfield mechanics or how to run bases just as catchers with cannons seem to have terrible footwork/mechanics behind the plate.

Vince Coleman was very fast, but it wasn't until Brock worked with him did he become a good base stealer.
