I’ve been shadowing on this site for awhile, trying to learn as much as possible as my 2023 LHP approaches his first HS season. Along the “bigger/faster/stronger” theme, my question is how much weight do colleges place on 60yd times for pitchers (assuming they are hitting appropriate metrics on the mound)? If this has already been hashed out somewhere, posting a link would be helpful as I couldn’t find it in archives. Thanks!

Athleticism will be more important than 60 times. Show that you can field your position, cover 1B, etc. Many camps and showcases, PO won’t even run the 60.
What CT says may be true - I agree that the times won't matter much. But make no mistake, most colleges have pitchers run, particularly when they show up in the Fall. Some a little, many A LOT. Most still use some combination of sprints and distance, right or wrong. Many will push those players to their limits and beyond early fall. To show up for your first college season, even as a PO, without being in running shape would likely be a huge mistake. Most won't require that a PO run a fast 60 but will require that he run several of whatever the distance of choice might be.
So, your 2023 LHP doesn't have to run fast but he will want to make sure that he embraces running as part of his ongoing conditioning program from this point on. IMO, it's OK if he trains mostly on sprints as long as he does enough of them. This will only help his overall conditioning so it's not all bad.
Thanks to both. He’s lean and wiry, pretty good long distance/cross country runner, just all knees and elbows during sprints. With everything else on his list, wasn’t sure how much he should be worry about that particular bogey.
At Headfirst camp this summer, my 2021 LHP had his standing broad jump checked as well as his vertical leap. I had never seen this done before at any showcase or camp.
None. Most don't make pitchers run the 60 unless they are 2 way guys. If they do it's not worth training for or stressing over. 2019 ran the 60 at schools that were recruiting as a 2 way player. Sat it out for the PO events like Area Code
Thanks again to all for the feedback. He hasn’t done a showcase yet ... it seems like consensus is not to worry about those until he has something to show ... just sorting out what that means besides velo.
I Think scouts do like more athletic pitchers everything else being equal but then again if one throws 75 they won't care if you are the best athlete ever and if you throw 95 you can be homer Simpson and they still will like you.
So it does help to be a good athlete and be in good shape but velo and throwing strikes is king.
