A MSL RECORD 41 scouts and college coaches came to week #2 of the 18U Metro Scout League at Craig Ranch Yesterday. We will post the list of scout/coach attendees later but wanted to share game highlights. 60 coaches/scouts is the total for 2 weeks.

On field 10, the Marlins beat the Rockies with Ryan Hope and Blake Griffin as the POGS for the FISH and Kevin Alexander Jr. and Christopher Good being elected as the POGS of the game for the ROCKS.

On field 9, the mighty Orange O's outlasted the Red Legs. Orioles POGS of the game were Wes Jones and Trey Teakell with Reds POGS Eric Tate and Zak Adams.

I had a chance to take in last Sunday's MSL event.

Positives -

-Organized and prompt venue
-Plenty of scout participation. Pro and College
-Quad field set up was great for viewing
-Weather was fantastic
-Wood bat

Negitives -

-Coaches/players need to be instructed on how to take infield
-Players on base paths trying to do too much

I'm always skeptical of "showcase" type events not providing their promoted value. I'd say this event would be worth while for all players...committed or not.
I think we should give out props to some of the hitters, as the bats showed a lot more life than they seemed to last year. Granted, it's only 290 down the lines but Ryan Ford (Plano West) hit a shot that would have been out almost anywhere. Wes Jones (Flower Mound) muscled up, and there were at least a couple of others who went deep, as well as a lot of solid line drives to gaps. All in all, they did themselves well, especially those who were hitting wood for the first time.

It will be fun to watch some individual match-ups. Will Ford turn on an O'Connor fastball? Will Zack Adams dust off his Jaguar teammate Jones? Will Adam Toth be the king of all Coppell if he ropes one off Will Abbott? Stay tuned.
