A cup of coffee

Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, Europe, Wrigley Field, the Carribean, Tennessee, Alaska, Omaha, Orioles Park at Camden Yards...and a handful of other great places and adventures.

I'd take that 'cup of coffee' for the experience of it all and the adventure any time.

Jeff Datz - a former Indians coach, said his enitre big league career consisted of one September callup where he got 10 ab's. He said he would have loved to have had more of an opportunity but he wouldn't have traded his cup of coffee for anything in the world.

Jim Leyland was another one who toiled for years and years in the minors and who could never quite break in at the next level. Sometimes it is just not in the cards. It takes tremendous ability and perseverence to even get a cup of coffee. The average fan may look down on these types of players but anyone who has a plyaer associated with the game knows what it takes and more importantly what it really means.

I really don't think the average fan looks down on guys who have a "cup of coffee" in the Show. As a youngster, I used to think these were some kind of superhumans if they had had five minutes in the Majors. That was before I even knew how hard it is and what odds you have to overcome. Even now I love talking to guys about their time in the Majors and the ones who seem to enjoy talking about it the most are those guys who had just the "cup of coffee". The ones I know wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

That is great! Also in the movie "Field of Dreams" Moonlight Graham getting his shot on the field. He enjoyed his "Cup of Coffee" too!

I love that scene with Dr Graham. That is so indicative of the desire one must have and also of setting priorities in life. Also, that dreams can come true....we just don't always know when.
As a physician, I always feel so 'proud" of him and his ultimate decision.
