My son, Shane, will be a junior this year and his sixteenth birthday is this coming Monday. The love I feel for him is overwhelming. The day he was born he was 9lbs 8oz and 22 inches long. He is now 6'3 I have to stand on my toes to give him a peck on the cheek. It is scary how fast they grow up and how much you learn from your children. My son is a pitcher and has such class when he is on the mound that he made my father cry at the Junior Olympics this year. He doesn't strut his stuff, show off or pout at the end of an inning. He does his job and walks off with his head held high regardless of what just happened on the field.

It will be a big year for Shane and I have all the confidence and love for my little man that any mother can have for her child. I have read many postings on this site from other mothers and I admire and respect you all. We are one in the same, wanting the best for our boys and living each any every minute to see them play the game they love so much.

Shanes#1fan,

You summed up "a mother's love" very well. I also have a 16-yr-old son, plus one who is 18, both tall thin pitchers. Like you, I'm my boys' "number one fan", quietly cheering their pursuits and accomplishments, or encouraging them during the tough times. Now with my 18-yr-old I'm learning how to step back and let him "leave the nest". Best wishes to your son during his last years of HS ... they fly by quickly!
Shanes#1fan, Happy Birthday to your son. He is very fortunate to have such love and support. Enjoy his junior year...think we are very lucky that our sons love baseball. It has made raising my son so much easier....it has allowed his Dad and I a way to show him our love and support, it has given him confidence, respect for himself, teammates, plus a great work ethic....and the frosting on all birthday cakes to come....we have had great times, and met some great people who we now call friends.... Best Wishes
I believe the feelings a mother has for her child is like nothing else. I have been blessed with 3 wonderful kids. They have given me so much. On august 14 my 18 year old son will be moving in his apartment to go to college. He is my second child but the first to leave home. Even though I know he is doing exactly what he has wanted to do for a long time , it is still hard. Time just seems to have gotten away from me. Yesterday I went and watched my sister's son, age 12, play in an all-star game and it brought me back to went my son was that age. I look forward to see my son play college baseball but, dread the day he moves out of our house. Talk about mixed feelings.
