A passed ball doesn't have a negative impact on a pitcher's ERA whereas a wild pitch does. While a passed ball is not an error it is treated as such when computing a pitcher’s ERA. In other words the inning should be reconstructed without errors and passed ball to determine if a run was earned or unearned. The only place a passed ball could hurt pitcher’s stats would be in his W-L column.
