What do these guys do that sets them apart from the rest of the hitters in the world? How do they hit with so much power and average?
"Practice."-Tiger Woods when asked what he would do after failing to make the cut at the U.S. Open. "When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stone-cutter hammering away at his rock perhaps 100 times without as much as a crack showing. Yet at the 101st blow, it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before." mtownfan

IP,

What do your responses in this topic mean? You always refer to using your middle, but never explain what it means or how to do so. Also, I can't see how this alone makes them a good hitter (possibly a better hitter but not the sole facotr they are a good hitter) or even how this affects their natural ability? I ask this hoping to get a helpful response to learn from. I do not wish to only be told how much i don't know about the swing (this I already know) or to find out own my own. Thanks for any help offered.

Jim Dixon in a book called the Exceptional Athlete (I think that's the name) explained that most kids are very good at imitating what they can see mlb players do. Those things they see are "outside" the uniform.

What they aren't good at imitating is what they can't see. Those things going on under the uniform...and/or...under the skin.

What he's refering to is the exceptional athletes' ability to use his pelvis in a manner than non exceptional athletes don't know how.

The loading/unloading process is completely different and much more efficient. Things like "vertical load" and "forward by turning" among others are examples.

If a hitter or a pitcher uses his "engine" better.....or has a better engine because he knows how to use it better....then all the "other" things a pitcher needs to do to throw the ball effectively, or a hitter needs to do to "hit" are much easier.

The proper use of the engine creates better power and better quickness.

Currently, the best instructor out there, who describes these movements is Steve Englishbey. He has a DVD out. I highly recommend it.

yes he does... over and over. I think he believes in the concept or has OCD

its about.. coil your hips as you stride to hit.

Turn inward as you fall forward. Yet it is not really falling.....controlled flow of weigh forward.

That is what it is about. OBTW ...there is much more to what makes the best hitter great
