Last night was very special for our son's teammate, Kevin Frandsen, who made his MLB debut for the San Francisco Giants. It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving local kid.

Kevin is a remarkable guy who never let size, lack of recognition, or even personal tragedy stop him. Despite high school success, he was offered only one college scholarship by the end of his senior year. He signed, went on to lead their conference in many areas each season, but still went undrafted as a college junior. At the end of his college senior year in 2004 the Giants took him in the 12th round and he’s made the most of every opportunity since. Good things can happen to those who persevere. Smile

TxMom,

Thanks for sharing this story. I noticed in the 3rd article that your son was Kevin's roommate and sitting there with him when he got the callup - very exciting.

I also liked this excerpt from the first article (San Jose Mercury News). Kevin's parents sound very nice and humble:

"It was all a bit overwhelming for Frandsen's parents, David and Tracie.

'Never in your wildest dreams do you expect your son to be here,' David said. 'I thought it was neat when he made all-stars in Little League.'

A teary-eyed Tracie expressed similar feelings, saying that she thought it was remarkable when her son made the team at Bellarmine and later became a starter at San Jose State. 'When he got drafted, it was beyond all expectations,' she said.

But here her son was, his name up on the scoreboard in center field. 'I'm speechless,' Tracie said."

Congrats and best wishes to Kevin!

I thought the interview with this young rookie after the game was interesting...just so he wouldn't take himself to seriously he was christened with a shaving cream pie in the face...a tradition of introduction to the "Bigs".

He took it good naturedly, and showed some real "class".

Congratulations to Kevin and his parents.
