Starts today in Dallas.

Son is going this year and unfortunately, I'm not.  Anything going on outside of the posted scheduled events worth knowing about besides the Cowboys game?   Any must-have food stops not of the expensive/fancy variety?

Who's goin?

A lot of good local restaurants in the area.  Would suggest heading to old downtown Grapevine and try Esparza's for Tex-Mex (disclaimer havent been there for a few years but historically very good).  For BBQ would suggest Hard 8 BBQ about 10 minutes from Gaylord Texan Hotel.   Grapevine also has several craft brewery's (try Grapevine Craft Brewery).  The Dallas Stars are playing Friday night at home and if time allows a trip to downtown Ft. Worth/Stock Yards is always a must to get that "Texas" experience.  New train service from Grapevine to downtown Ft. Worth just started (TexRail) and rides are free thru January.  Cowboys Golf Club is 5 minutes from hotel and really nice (weather should be in 60s Friday-Sunday and sunny).  Looking at the schedule doesn't look like there will be much free time but there are plenty of things to do within 30 minutes of hotel (shopping, museums, nightlife, food etc)  Hope everyone enjoys their time in Texas!

Son of Prepster joins Driveline's Kyle Boddy, Oregon State Pitching Coach, Nate Yeskie, and Tarleton State Head Coach Bryan Conger for a panel discussion in the Expo Theater at 10:45 Friday morning for a discussion around Driveline's approach to evaluating and developing pitchers.

A panel about Driveline's approach to evaluating and developing hitters precedes the pitching panel at 9:45; also in the Expo Theater. It features Driveline's Jason Ochart and the St. Louis Cardinals' Jeff Albert.

Nice!  I spotted that Driveline discussion on the schedule, thinking it could be a good one and that is was too bad those Expo Theater events run concurrent with the clinic speakers... but didn't know your son was involved.  Son and other attendees will have some tough decisions.  Looks like tons of great clinics, discussions, events planned along with the usual fully packed trade show floor.

Proposal:

"A three-week extension in the fall/winter quiet period, which would now start Oct. 15 instead of Nov. 10, as it did last year. This proposal would allow coaches to be on campus for most of their team’s fall workouts, and hopefully also encourage high school prospects to “shut down” earlier in the fall for much-needed rest and arm care. The recruiting summit group, which recommended this change 14-2, felt that any meaningful fall recruiting events could be moved into the four-week contact period."

Also:

"No action is imminent in the decades-long quest to raise college baseball’s scholarship limit from 11.7, but it remains No. 1 on the wish list for a great many coaches, and also for the ABCA.

First, some data provided by the ABCA:

Total Division I baseball programs in 2018: 297

Limit of scholarship equivalencies: 11.7

Number of programs offering 11.7 scholarships: 149 (50 percent)

Average number of equivalencies awarded: 10.58

Average number of student-athletes receiving aid: 24 (out of a maximum 27)

Proportion of equivalencies vs. student-athletes on aid: 44 percent"

Yep. This annual event is a baseball coach's/junky's nirvana; with tough scheduling decisions throughout the day.

For anyone wanting to see any January baseball on Saturday, PBR is hosting a showcase in nearby Plano.

I’ll be in Plano mid February can you get them to push it back a month

Texas HS baseball will be 2 weeks in for most private schools, and the public schools will be starting up then so you will be able to find plenty of baseball action at that time!

Coach Conger is moving to the Texas Rangers organization. So happy for him.

He is a sharp coach for sure and well earned.  I am curious who Tarleton will bring in since Ben Buck left after last season to be the head coach at Lamar JC.  Have seen several organizations hiring good college coaches in the last couple days.
