I know the name and thrust of this site regards high school ball and related recruiting issues, but can anyone direct me to information here or elsewhere regarding the process of being drafted out of college? I'm looking for details about when and how contacts are made between players, scouts and teams (what's permitted, what isn't), and how the recruiting and negotiating process unfolds from there. Thanks for any help.

If you have been drafted out of college you negotiate with the team that drafted you. Scouts will come to games or you can go to tryouts. The scouts will contact you if they are interested.

If you mean you are out of college and want to get drafted, then you can go to major league scouting bureau tryouts, individual team tryouts, open tryouts, etc. If a scout likes you and wants to sign you then he will talk to the powers that be. My son had a friend undrafted out of college. He went to a Pirates tryout. They signed him on the spot.

Maybe bbscout will come on and give his insight.

Bighit covered most of it. A pro scout can call you at any time and talk to you at anytime. They are not restricted by dates and times like the college coaches. I have a very simple way of getting in touch with a player. I ask around at a game for his phone number, and if I get it....fine. If I don't get it, I corner him after a game and get it. Heck, I have asked guys in the bull pen to get me a players phone number. Once I get it, I call him and get the rest of his info.
