There are too many lessons in this thread to pull it. It's inconsiderate to ask other people's efforts to be deleted.

Mech1978, you can delete your own posts anytime.  However, if the post is copied (like I just did above), it's on the site for good or until that poster deletes their post.

Just sayin'.

Hey keewart - I have been smart enough to delete a few of my posts when I said something really stupid. It wouldn't be the first time that has been done...

Me too, Birdman.  Me too.

And note:  if you post, and then think better of it and delete it real quick, although it may not appear on the site, anyone that is following the post gets to see it.  I have seen a few deleted posts that way.....

There are moderators on the site (e.g., Swampboy, myself, MN-MOM) who will assist those that might like to have content removed when something they said was re-posted.  Sometimes things can be said wrong or not enough context given to fully clarify.  We all make mistakes so I am willing to help if someone asks.

Not sure what to add to the topic at hand.  I know LUCK plays a huge role in all this.  I would encourage kids with the old saying "The harder you work, the luckier you get."  A kid needs to be ready when luck breaks their way.  Bad coaches, back-stabbing parents, bad calls, lousy tryouts, politics, improper talent evaluations, misleading statements, hurt feelings, etc., etc., are all part of the game and exist at every level of the game.  No matter how good of a decision maker you are, hind site can prove that you made a bad decision.  Nobody beforehand can advise you not to make bad decisions.  Sometimes good decisions turn out bad.  Many of the players you see on big league fields today outlasted and overcame the minefields in their path.  Stephen Vogt overcame many obstacles in his path and won a playoff game for Oakland the other night.  Sonny Gray pitched great in the same game and he had a completely different path to the big leagues than Vogt.  You have to take the hand you are dealt and make the best of it.  Baseball is the ultimate mental game and tough-mindedness can take you to the top.

No matter how promising or how bad things seem at the time, things change.  Encourage your kids to remain positive and see things through until things break their way.  All they can do is be ready when opportunity comes.
