Hate to second guess because I don't like protecting certain players but an ace pitcher not pitching in the lineup (bat ok, nothing to talk about)running home slides feet first right into catcher blocking plate. Ankle swollen instantly, can barely walk after game, unsure of injury.

Wont say what team but a struggling, losing team cannot afford injuries like that. Not only does it hurt the team but maybe future looks in jeopardy (on the radar of a few).

I know its baseball, but he is not going to go to college for hitting or running. I don't know. Sad situation. Its still pre-district tourneys. Anyone have opinions on this?

Maybe I'm overreacting now that it happenned, I didn't have issue before but last year team injury free this year two pitchers down, 1 infielder injured. Bad times, but baseball none the less.

Unfortunately injuries are part of the game and I do not believe you can coach worried about injuries. We all hate to see a player get injured.

Ask yourself this, besides the kid himself who do you think is most sick about the situation? I would bet the coach, his job depends on winning games and being competitive.

My son broke his arm in two places last year diving for a ball against the worst team we played all year. (run rule game) Hated to see it but he plays at one speed only and that is the way he has been coached all his life.
Ridiculous. Unless he throws 104 from the left side its stupid to hold him out of the lineup if he can help the team on defense or at the plate. And obviously the coach thinks he can.

he got hurt. It happens. Short of wrapping every kid in bubble wrap (especially the pitchers), injuries are going to happen. I hate it, too, but you can't make out your lineup scared.

I would add, why was the kid going in head first? I always teach pitchers to slide feet first only. He should have been doing this since he started pitching.

Baseballdad said that he "slides feet first right into cather blocking plate..."

I would say it would be hard to hurt your ankle sliding head first unless the catcher stepped on it.
