ACT Prep Courses

My son took C2 Education prep courses. Not sure where you are located but it was a tremendous help for my son. He scored 2,090 on SAT and scored 33 on his ACT.

I agree that taking a prep course is a good idea.  Both of my kids have gotten good improvements as a result.   In person is probably better than online so it's hard for folks out of your area to recommend teachers.  I would have your kid take both SAT and ACT, at least mock versions, to see which test he's better at, and then do the prep.  I'd also recommend doing the prep in the summer, if possible, so it won't interfere with school work.

First son had good luck with Sylvan, plan to do same with second son.

ACT or SAT scores are extremely important in the recruiting process.  Unfortunately the only way coaches can compare kids academically nationwide.

 

We've done Princeton Review and we've done stand alone, private and small group tutoring.  The quality of the instructors vary widely, even within companies.  The methodology was similar:  get familiar with the test, do practice problems, repeatedly take timed practice sections and tests, review mistakes, etc.

 

My two guys both did better in the earliest Fall tests of their Senior years.  Probably a lot of reasons.  One important factor as JCG noted was the ample time to do prep in the Summer.

I'm a believer in test prep too.  Both mine used Kaplan on-line with good success/results.
