2014 missed most of spring and all of this summer due to upper hamstring injury, which we are learning takes a long time to get right. He most likely won't be ready to return to sport until end of Sept/beginning of Oct. He attended a Big 12 school camp last summer and they felt he is probably a mid major D1/D2 type player, which is where we are focused. Has he missed the boat, or are there still opportunities for schools to see him in Oct? Thanks.

2014DAD,

So to summarize,  your 2014 son missed most of his junior year high school and travel season.  Did any college coaches or scouts see him prior to the injury beside the Big 12 school that told him he was not what they were looking for?  I'll assume there has been no interest otherwise you would have shared it.

Did he attend any showcases prior to the injury?  How are his grades?  Do you live in a warm climate (so he can practice and rehab)?  Is he a pitcher or a position player?  Are you seeking programs in warm climates with Fall & Winter showcases and camps (so you can get on the field)?  In my mind, these are all factors that may come into play as he tries to find an interested program that lost a recruit or is looking for a recruit.  Your son is possibly going to have to work harder to find a baseball situation that fits, and get really lucky.

There is another thread that deals with this topic titled "Still Recruitable While Injured" in the Recruiting section.  There is some good advice from people that have been in your situation.  Good luck, and I hope he is healthy soon.

Fenway,

Thank you for your response and guidance. He's a position player, with a 4.5 GPA. He was rated a 7 and put on PG's follow list last year.  You're correct in no real interest other than he has had some email dialogue with a few coaches, with one of those coaches telling him he's "talented".

Our plan was to have him reach back out to his schools of interest and find out their needs and if they have fall/winter camps so they can see him.

His number one academic choice is a small D1 school and he was invited to apply early by their admissions dept and we should hear back in Sept. We haven't yet heard back from the coaching staff. If he's accepted, we are not ruling out him walking on. However, all options are open.

Thank you again for you taking the time to reply. It means a lot.

2014DAD,

Given his academic performance (4.5GPA) that may open some D3 doors with merit scholarships.  Have you considered pursuing his baseball future through his academics?  Truthfully, D3 may be his best play in finding a program that really wants him and needs him on his injury timetable.  I'll think you may find more interest with this approach at this point in time.   If my son was in a similar situation right now, we would absolutely be considering this path.  Right now, D3 recruiting is ramping up.

Please feel free to send me a PM via Dialog (top right corner) if you want to discuss specifics, pros and cons.
