Well we reached the cutoff,  my son was insistent he wanted to play travel ball instead of little league.   I took him off the list,  which resulted in about 3 hours of phone calls from various guys from the league and another few days past the deadline to weigh our decision some more.   After a day my son still has his mind made up.   Im not sure if there is a wrong decision but at the end of the day it was his decision.

One thing to keep in mind is its not up to those coaches to decide whats best for your son.  In reality you owe them nothing.  Yes they may have been decent folks over the years but you need to do whats right for your son.  If thats moving to travel ball then they need to respect that decision.  Conversely if you feel that playing LL is the best for your son then you need stand fast on that decision with your son.

I received some of the same pressure when we left LL.  Its tough.  When we left a good friend of ours called me.  Said they were thinking of doing the same thing but are going to stay with LL due to loyalties, friendships, etc.  They left the year after.  I have since had conversations with him about this and he has made mention that it was a mistake to stay.

Here is one vote saying you and he are absolutely doing the right thing.  In this day and age, the best (only?) argument by far for a talented and highly aspirational kid to stay in LL vs. seeking high end travel ball is because it will be more fun and he can be with his friends.  It is a good and legit argument.  But, in this case, that does not at all seem to be the case.  Your son really wants to play travel and has some good friends there.  Thus, he made the right decsion; don't look back.  Good luck to him!!

Like others have said, do what YOU think is best for your son, he is too young to make the overall decision. A little late now but: if money is no issue then no question travel is best, but if money is borderline and probably will be in the future, I would try to save now for down the road when travel/ showcase really matters so there is no scambling for funds and the family suffers. Just my opinion.
