Once fall-ball concludes (son's team has a wrap-up intrasquad World Series), what comes next? I know they will stay on the conditioning, but do, for example, pitchers still get together with catchers on a regular basis to keep sharp?

Some programs do things differently. Some have fall ball then go into instruction, others have instruction then fall ball, all within the NCAA allowed time. Some coaches will continue with conditioning as a team until Thanksgiving break, then before you know it semester is over, exams. Some teams hold camp where the players have to participate. Pitchers shut down but continue their running and conditioning and tossing. Busy learning signs, etc. and coaches stragedies. Hitters still hit the cages and into heavy conditioning, some teams hold olympic type competition to promote team building.

When players return after break, it's back in the gym and pitchers are getting ready to throw in practice again, which can take the whole month of January to be ready by spring practice. Position players at batting practice daily.

If a coach is paying for part of your education and to play ball and win in the spring, they have their eye on you all of the time, you are ALWAYS busy. I never heard of a program where you are left on your own from end of fall practice to feb 1.
I didn't mean like your on your own and the coaches don't care what you do. I was just saying the coaches can't be with you in January can they? The only coach that can be with you is the S&C coach, correct?

At a couple Junior Days I went to, the coaches said a junior or senior has a group of underclassmen and he is responsible for them. They get together to throw, hit, and do defensive work because you will be with guys that play the same position you do. The coaches will tell the upperclassmen what they want the guys to be doing. I feel this is a pretty good system and I know of a few colleges that do their winter baseball like this.

That's why some coaches recruit many players for leadership skills, not just for their talent. Smile

Players have to run practices on their own, and reports go back to the HC who worked hard that day and who didn't, just like he was there.
As I said, they have their eyes on you all of the time (or someone elses). Wink
