The "draft and follow" season will be very short Tuzi... ending on Aug 15. I would imagine some of these clubs will be watching their picks a lot more intently during summer ball. It might impact a few kids.
I'm with you though, what do I know. Not really sure how many draft and follow guys ever sign anyway. My boy has never really had any interest in that path, although it has worked for some.
There is no draft and follow anymore.

It is a player's advantage to sign asap, so he doesn't miss a season.

Holding out will be a thing of the past, you either sign or you don't.

Teams that don't have anyone signed in earlier rounds get extra picks the following year, a big bonus for them.

Baseballmom,
Was just pointing out for those who didn't realize and read what you post the minimum minor league salary is not 60K.

HS players always have more leverage. But I think it is going to be tougher for them to make the decision and have greater demands, especially those that have great college options. And I think it will bring more pre draft discussions than before for those projected to fall in the 5th,6th round.

The "draft and follow" comment was my attempt at a baseball play on words. If they pick a pick a kid in the low rounds, NOW, they can only "follow" them during the summer versus like the old days (the week before the next draft.) I know this is an "agent" topic, but it will be interesting to see if the new Aug 15 date for everyone will affect how business is carried out. We have to humor ourselves up here in Illinois in the winter, weather being the way it is you know!!!
nc42dad,
got ya!
I asked Dave's coach if the 15th made a difference, he said no as school begins a week, maybe week and a half after that date. Most HS players don't hold out.
If you have noticed in the past few years, some top college picks do tend to hold out. Some will head back to the cape to further their cause, and soe just never set foot back on campus. This will eliminate that. Now it's sign or go back to school.

I've never looked at signing dates too closely. Many of those college holdouts get a lot of press in the baseball circles but you never hear too much up here about the high school holdouts. Those college holdouts might have less leverage now with the new agreement.
FYI - we start throwing tomorrow after a two month layoff (inside the school gym of course.) The boy is staying in this weather too, after he graduates - says it makes him tough! He doesn't care I am wearing a winter coat while I watch him.
