Great run by Poteet. Smile I takes a great amount of skill combined with other factors to win a Region Championship let alone a State Title! But as predicted too much to handle from the teams South of the Metroplex. History speaks for itself! Great season to all and look forward to watching the kids...from all schools progress.
unfortunately poteet never had a chance this game was won long before it started.

These guys from moody have an unfair advantage. They have a "magnet program" in which the principal from there school re3cruits students from all of the junior highs in the city and they get some of the best players in south texas to play for them.

I counted 5 of the 9 starters and numerous back ups do not live in the moody attendance zone.

catcher
centerfielder
left fielder
1st baseman

I am not trying to start any controversy but the truth is they have some of the best players from this city (not there attendance zone)in there line-up and it makes a huge difference for them.

As I said earlier in a post that the state title was theirs weeks ago they had the best team of any 4a that i saw all year. I just think that all of the other teams didnt have the same advantage as they had with the "magnet program".

Just an observation.
Can we please forget that we talked about this?
I have no intentions of being rude, but this talk also came up after Moody's '04 crown... It acheived nothing, and served no practical purpose.
The truth is, (Inconvenient or not Big Grin ) that Moody was the better team out there, and the score was indicative of that.

And yes, tickethead, close to 2000 is large for 4A, but Moody is not the only 4A school in the state to have an enrollment hovering near 2k.
Well if it is true that they recruit outside their attendance zones then why does everyone oppose private schools joining the UIL. Isn't that why people don't want private schools in, because of the unfair advantage of recruiting. All school districts in Texas should adopt the same policy as CCISD. If you really want a level playing field. I can promise you if Poteet could have recruited players just in the Mesquite ISD area it may have even been a very different outcome. Maybe its something we should take a look at here in North Texas. Maybe we should reload our best teams here with out of district players and see how it goes then.

poteet played with kids that live in poteet
canyon randell played with kids that lived in canyon randall
texas city played with kids that lived in texas city.

moody played with kids that lived in corpus christi(the whole city of corpus christi not just the moody attendance zone)

and moody is the 4a state champs congrats to them but they had an unfair advantage over these four ball clubs
I wish everyone would stop whinning for Poteet. They just got beat by a better team. Period. Hear me again - They just got beat. Teddy N went 16-1 over the course of the year. I am sure there were some "Moody" type teams they played along the way in that great run. Sometimes you just have to "tip your hat." I tip mine to Teddy N and also to Moody.
ctiger,
Everyone understands the situation. Moody has the status (albeit shady) of a magnet school. They won the crown, and some people are upset. Same as 2004. Can we just drop it now?

Somehow I think the odds of getting a revamped rematch for Poteet are somewhat slim. So why don't we all focus our energies into either: A) Summer Ball and the Select Circuit, or B) Reloading for next season.

NO it IS important to point out.

No one is whining for Poteet they got to state WITHOUT out of area players. We did it with players with heart and superior coaching and some luck along the way. We made it like most all other teams in the tournament and I thought, how the UIL intended.

My question is if this has been going on in CC all this time why do they not win state every year? If you can't win with a talent pool like that, maybe a coaching change is in order.
Moody is not a "magnet" school as that title is reserved for academics only. Infact, all CCISD schools can recruit. Moody was not the only team that made a deep run into the playoffs from CC. Everyone admitted who was the better team so leave it at that instead of looking for excuses. It was a tail whipping. Lets move on.

MYO - The huge difference between teams from the North and South Texas is that parents for N Tex look for "unfairness" , like the umpire, the facilites, recruiting. Teams from S Tex don't make excues they work harder to get better.
En Fuego, not sure if you are a Moody Dad or where you are from, but I would be interested in where your head was, relative to the private schools entering the UIL.

Hypothetical...CCC (Corpus Christi Catholic, assume this is a school) goes around Corpus Christi and the rest of South Texas, and gives "academic" scholarships to 16 stud baseball players, including the 9 Moody starters, and runs the table, winning the State tournament...

1) For or Against Private Schools entering UIL?
2) Fair/Unfair recruiting?
I think the "Fireball" is on track by saying the UIL should relax the rules if the Privates were allowed in. I came from a state with a much smaller population and having the privates in was a necessity and the only school that recruited successfully was one that has a legacy in European Futbol!

Scholarships cost money and some point "accountability" factors in so I don't beleive it will be a free-for-all vying for talent as many think.
I beg to differ enfuego,
all schools cannott recruit in corpus christi. That is a false statement.

No one can recruit except moody and the principal who recruits to ghet students(or athletes) into the health science program.

Recruiting is illegal for non magnet programs.

this is my point i was trying to make at the beginning moody does have an unfair advantage no matter which way you look at it that no other school has, as you have suggested.

Magnets can recruit but we wont let private schools in the uil??????????????

Right or wrong this is what gives the advantage to them.
They let Dallas Jesuit into an UIL district. Cool

ctiger is right but the assertion is not limited to CC Moody, although that may be his primary concern. School districts have varying rules regarding boundries. There are magnet schools across the state, including Richardson HS and Newman Smith. And private schools provide opportunities that may not be considered "fair" by some.

Interpretting rules is seldom simple. One kid moves from FM to Coppell and is denied immediate varsity eligibility. PantherDad works in Arlington but lives in Allen (Plano ISD) -- if PantherSon suddenly transferred to Martin, would there be a controversy?

All this to say --- life isn't always fair. Smile (like you need someone like me to speel that out) From all accounts CC Moody was the best team in 4A this year. It sounds like they may have been the best team in the state, regardles of classification. But they won't win it every year....just as Plano East (the state's largest HS) won't win it every year. (they probably will in '08 Big Grin )

Life goes on, fair or unfair, and baseball still been bery bery good to me. I'm rambling.
