I haven't met that player yet.  I think he lives in the north Maine woods and doesn't get out much.

I don't accept input from anyone other than another umpire and then only on calls that can be appealed.

As soon as you listen one player, regardless the point he is making, you've opened yourself up to charges of bias when you do not listen to another player.

 I would never change a call based on any input offered by a player......I make the best call I can with the tools, view, experience and training that I have at hand.  

Players play and game officials officiate. It's how the game works the best. In the long run the bad calls even out.

Humor just never seems to fit in these situations, but if it did it would be "thanks....I'll even it up when you get to the plate".

Give the ballplayer a few seconds to process that and a rye smile and he probably gets your point.  And of course, the best part.....he'd never really know if you were serious or not.

Thanks guys and that's what I figured your responses would be.  I understand the sentiment of the commercial and it's honorable although it's very unrealistic. 

You'd have to check over on the soccer board..

I have had players tell me or my partner that we called them safe but they thought they  were out. I have told them I didn't see it that way, I appreciate the honesty but I have to go with what I saw. 

I my gosh, the S word was used and not flagged as profane!
