My son's travel team will be playing in the All American Tournament in Memphis the last week of June. I would like to fly down for a few days. Can you please recommend a safe and clean area for a baseball mom to stay? I will have a rental car so I can travel to the outskirts of the city.
Any other suggestions for this Denver mom?

Thanks in advance, from the parents that went last year, they said this tourney had some of the best baseball of the summer.

I agree with cbg. Stay in the eastern sector of Memphis. (Germantown Collierville area) If it were me I would look for something on Germantown road just south of I-40. Bartlett (NE) is OK too. Avoid the SW and the NW portion of Memphis. While the All American Tournament is hosted by the Memphis Tigers (I think) you might want to drop by Dulins Sports Complex (just off Germantown road on Fisher Steel Road and check out their baseball state of the art 1st Tennessee fields and complex). I highly recommend a trip to the heart of downtown Memphis to view the sights and sounds (famous for the blues and Bar-B-Q) if possibly take in a Memphis Redbirds game (AAA of the St Louis Cardinals) which has their stadium in the heart of downtown. The Mississippi River slowly winds its way past Memphis creating a beautiful riverfront area and "Mud Island", a unique area that along with other attraction depicts the life and path of old man river. Of course the paddle boat river boat rides are always a good way to let your mind drift off and savor a little of the old south. Y'all enjoy your stay. Wink

PS If anyone asks how you’re doing just answer “fair to middlin” (a common phrase that originated in the south when cotton was king)
You may also want to consider Olive Branch, MS. Not really any further from Collierville to Gagliano Field and in a much more reserved area. About a 20 minute drive. Also, alot of eating establishments such as Chilis, AppleBees, IHOP, and several others. It sounds like you are concerned for your safety and this is about as safe as it gets in the Memphis metro area.
Definitely avoid NW and SW Memphis. Also avoid the Memphis airport area. Stay on East side of Memphis (Poplar Ave area is nice & safe) Germantown, Collierville, or Olive Branch.

If you do venture downtown, Blues City Cafe on Beale Street has (in my opinion) the best ribs in the State of Tennessee. The Original Corky's on Poplar Ave. is a close 2nd. Many however would argue the best ribs are at the Rendezvous. If you prefer 'em dry rubbed, then Rendezvous is the place.
