Also, I thought Flaherty was 2nd team pitcher. I think the Pilot omitted that.

I was at the game last night when the announcements were made. Flaherty was announced as a second team pitcher.

I sent an email to Mr. Frankenberry of the Pilot suggesting that they correct in Pilotonline, as well as correct that Travis Johnson is from Nansemond River, not Western Branch as published.

Congrats to the POY Nicholas Thompson!

, certainly a deserving pick!

Thompson excelled in every aspect of the game this season for Western Branch. As a batter he hit .436 with a .727 slugging percentage. He only struck out twice all season, and did not strike out a single time in district play! His on-base-percentage was 55.7%, and he even stole ten bases. In the field he did not make a single error. On the mound he had a 7-1 won/loss record, and recorded a 1.098 ERA. Opponents only managed to bat .197 against him, and he struck out 70 batters in 51 innings pitched, while walking only 11. Thompson also set the Western Branch career wins record for a pitcher with 31.

Nick will certainly be in line for regional, state and national honors as well! Fine young man and headed to East Carolina in the Fall.
