Okay, so then, it was the smile that interjected the umpire into the game? hmmmmm.
And, the umpire made what you considered the wrong call on the checked swing. Can you tell us what criteria, in accordance with the rules, that you used to determine that?
Again, I wasn't there and didn't see the play, but I have an idea what the umpire based his opinion on. Just checking to see what you based your's on.
In my opinion the batter did not offer at the pitch.
I really do applaud how many times MLB umps get this call right, and I know of no other way for them to call it when they are 100 feet away from the swing in fast motion. Like Jimmy says they have to rely on their training, experience, and mechanics to get it right more than they get it wrong on a split second appeal. I guess that is why they are MLB and I am legue ball umpire.....thanks for the spirited banter on the post.
I to would like to thank everyone for the debate. It has been fun. I know that this comes down to my opinion and no one has to agree. I respect that and everyone's opinions, even though I may no agree. I also want you to know I respect each and every one of you and appreciate what you do both on the field and on this forum.
